"The first draft of the screenplay was an adaptation by Gilbert Adair of his own novel, The Holy Innocents. During pre-production, Bertolucci made changes to it: he "peppered the narrative with clips from the films he loves" and dropped homosexual content – including scenes from the novel that depict Matthew and Théo having sex – which he felt was "just too much"."

Since Donna Tart's The Secret History is unlikely to be adapted to the big screen one has to turn to this. It's a bit pompous and vain, but it is equally as enchanting. 5 years 11 months ago
