Without giving away spoilers, at somthing point in the film, without saying when:

I'm a 29 male tears were coming down my face, my lip was quivering and thought I was about to lose it, my girlfriend comforted me well!

It may be old but it is great, to contact someone she rights a letter....texting/SMS with a phone wouldn't have the same impact.

Such a tearful, poignant little gem. I truly adored everything about it -- Mrs Muir's (Gene Tierney) breathtaking beauty, the Captain's (Rex Harrison) wittiness and rough good looks. Such characters were these two -- such a pleasure to watch. I love their dialogue and the tender love between them. And the story, of course, very beautiful and heart-warming.

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is a charming love story for hopeless romantics about a widow who moves to the seaside and finds her new house haunted by a surly sea captain. Gene Tierney gives as good as she gets as Mrs. Muir, a woman who is done following another person's path (and yet) and won't be haunted out of her home. She's lovely, and Rex Harrison as the ghost manages to thread the line between acerbic and sympathetic. So it starts as a light fantastical comedy and eventually takes us into more dramatic territory, accumulating poignancy as it moves along. By the scene where the Ghost talks to Mrs. Muir in her sleep, in was hitting me right in the ticker, again and again. The subtext, with the Ghost more or less a stand-in for the dead husband, allows for a subtle discussion of the stages of grief, and the persistence of memory. All I knew going in was the old TV show which I'd watched (in French) when I was a kid, and of course, it didn't allow its story to be told to its conclusion the way the film does. Just lovely.

It had a sweet ending but, otherwise, this film went down the tubes for me as soon as George Sanders entered. It should have stayed focused on Tierney, Harrison and Wood. Yet Wood was barely developed as a character.

A lot of dated chauvinism embedded in this script too.

This movie was kind of boring, and about 20 to 30 minutes too long.

Not a bad movie. Much better than Meet Joe Black/Just like heaven and others alike. I liked that it wasn't very soapy.
Very nice soundtrack also.
