Fantastic movie - great score, acting from the three leads, cinematography, and direction. Maintains a dark mysterious mood throughout, which no doubt bores some, but I was engrossed at what felt tonally much like a stylish throwback to an old spy movie.

Superb film from beginning to end. Well done Polanski, I didn't see this one coming.

Christ potatoes, I love a good political thriller. In some aspects I felt this was a better film than The Ides of March, which was one of my favorites of 2011.

Like a fine wine, The Ghost Writer takes one ingredient and infuses comedy, thriller and politics with notes of noir, Hitchcock and Wells and creates such a sly and subtle suspense the end sneaks up on you and you're left wondering what happened. And you realize that you've just experiences something really great. The plot seems simple enough and not really intense, yet Polanski always weaves something extra into his movies that makes them that much better. The performances of the actors involved are above par and the writing is very good with such subtle hints to the audience and the protagonist that you really have no idea who the bad guy is until the end. The cinematography was really great; it all felt very dark and brooding and the foghorn was a nice touch. The editing was also spot on; there really wasn't a wasted scene. I've been a huge fan of Polanski ever since I first saw Frantic and he has not disappointed yet.

I read lots of comments about this one - and I don't agree with most of them.

Lots of people seem to dislike this film because it's either boring or predictable - I don't agree with any of this; but neither do I agree with other comments praising the movie too much. I think it's rather average; not bad at all, entertaining, with a certain dark atmosphere, a great Ewan McGregor and a nice turn at the end. It did not blow me away and I don't think I'll watch it a second time, either... but I was well entertained the first time.

Behind Rosemary's Baby and Chinatown, but ahead of The Pianist and Repulsion.

Also, did anyone else notice how Pierce Brosnan looks a lot like Ronald Reagan in this? I also noticed a lot of Reagan references...
