Chaplin dancing with a balloon is the stuff dreams are made of.Joris B.

A bold film, impressive in its satire in the face of evil. There are several truly great scenes, the dance with the globe especially stands out. Chaplin's maniacal laugh at the start of that sequence is both hilarious and haunting. One of my favorite things about Chaplin is his sweetness, he shows such an appreciation of life and joy, such a care towards people and their struggles. His quality really shines in the final monologue, beautiful.Joker of Gotham
Great speech in the end of the movie, but my favourite C.C. movie is still The Gold Rush3.5/5

Great film, more funny that I thought it would be!george4mon
i not a big fan of Chaplin's early silent films but this was really good!Big A2
@Ashrzr: That was the one thing that I didn't like about the film. It just comes out of nowhere. What ever happened to "show, don't tell", Charlie? You could say it's all the anger pent up in the character, but it comes off as more preachy than angry.Still, even though my Grandmother went fox hunting with Mussolini in 1939-1940, I gave this an 8. Actually, I'll give it an 8.5. It took a lot of balls to make a movie like this in 1940.

I did not know it was possible to yawn so much while watching a comedy movie...grit

Awful....StigAnder
Like the other Chaplin movies I have seen this is a series of clown sketches forced into a feature film with equally forced social commentary. Probably should have watched this in kindergarten, that's the last time I found "heil Hitler"-jokes funny. As for Chaplin as an actor I think he's so self-aware that even if he was funny to this day, it would not make me laugh.Showing items 16 – 30 of 30
