Tough to watch but a really good movie that deserved a spot in the award rounds this year but I guess it's not politically correct enough. Black Panther is how people want to celebrate black movies. Of course I always expect book adaptions to fall short to the source material, especially movies from YA books.
But here it is especially dramatic, because this book and its message is just so important. It's not a bad movie. Not at all. It just doesn't convey the depth and emotion, doesn't have the same impact as the book.
Looking back at the end of the movie at all the small, but significant changes it feels like most of them took out bit by bit the bite of the original story to make it easier to swallow for (white) audiences. Which I find especially in this case so disappointing.
If you don't read, do watch this movie. It is worth it. But read the book if you can. 7 months ago
