Did I see any of the other Hobbit or LotR movies? No. Did I read the books? No. Do I like fantasy movies/books (particularly medieval)? No. Did I like the High Frame Rate 3D? Absolutely! I was enthralled within the first 5 seconds of what was to me one of the most nonsensical stories I have ever seen. I spent the next two plus hours just thinking of the future implications of the technology. The movie played both like a satisfactory finish for fans as well as an exhibition of technological proficiency. There were parts were the CGI was hokey but on the whole it was a fantastic third outing for a developing format.

For all those that don't think it looks cinematic enough or too much like a soap opera, I'll agree slightly but that's because I felt like the screen I watched it on was too small. There were brief moments were I lost myself on the screen and were it felt like I was watching it live or on a theatrical stage with super realistic special effects. And from my understanding, beyond being a treat for fans these movies were technical marvels showcasing a certain potential for cinema. Should every film be presented in HFR? No, but I can't wait to actually see something I am actually interested in in the format (and on a much bigger screen). And that's something I didn't feel after Avatar.

This was a big disappointment. They ruined a perfectly good story. LOTR was a fantastic trilogy, this was just the opposite.

Come on! Could not they make the dragon talk a little less? It looks like a parody of villain, giving a thousand explanations to his victim.

If you took all the best bits of all three movies it wouldn't match even one of the LOTR movies.

This was pretty awful. I had low expectations yet I am dissappointed. It was still entertaining to watch, but the Hobbit-movies soiled the reputation of the LOTR-trilogy, and it's disgusting that they extended ONE book into three mediocre movies dripping with CGI and yet totally lacking emotion. And what's with the forced love-triangle?! Never again watching this stinking pile of turd.

It would appear that I just wasted two and a half hours watching a dull computer game.

The only positive I can think of is that I didn't spend a single penny viewing this bloated half assed money grabbing trilogy.

I think it's safe to say that Peter Jackson is physically and emotionally drained at this point from doing Tolkien's stories, and this film shows it. I have always been a hard core fan of the Hobbit since I read it as a kid but this whole movie is just one giant battle scene. Far too much CGI for anybody's good and the green screen work was so sloppy that you could even see a fuzz effect around the characters at certain points. It plays out like some sort of parody of the book and Jackson's previous LOTR trilogy. I can't even begin to tell you how many times the old "*insert name*" is about to die but gets saved at the last minute" cliché popped up in the film. Then when the character finally did die, it was about as anti-climatic as possible.

One small positive is that Smaug, as always, was a delight to watch. Shame they only gave him like 4 or 5 minutes of screen time though. Unfortunately with the way Jackson split the story up into the trilogy he covered all the character development and plot points in the past two movies. That made this one, as I said above, a mindless action movie. In the end I think most of us will hold our LOTR trilogy close and think back to what were the golden years of 2001-2003.

Fun end to a fun trilogy. I don't care what anyone says, I enjoy The Hobbit movies.

Not the perfect movie but I had a good time watching it.
Despite the many flaws and some parts that didn't make sense for me, in the end it made me want to see the lord of the rings original trilogy, at least the first 30 minutes, those movies are very long.

Beer helped me get through this.

Favourite part - Thorin: "My Gold, you can't have it, and I'm not helping fight the Orks... Oh, okay then, now that loads of people have died I guess I'll help..."

Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies are to the Lord of the Rings what the prequel trilogy is to Star Wars.

i didn't like the fact that spoiler and some fight scenes at the last battle were too much, even for Legolas.
