Once again it's a movie with great wasted potential. One of those movies you know the end in the first 5 minutes.
As I haven't seen the original, I can't tell much about the franchise or even if this is a continuation or a remake, but it's sad to see what Hollywood can do to waste movies.
Jason Statham is really the (not so) new name of action movies. In the most vigorous scene he's truly great but when it comes to acting... I prefer him as a stuntman. Ben is not so bad either, but likewise, don't deserve great atention.
In The Mechanic, Statham plays an ultra-prepared hitmat who is asked to kill his mentor and ends up taking his son (Ben Foster) under his wing. It becomes a dark and interesting tutorial in how such men might operate - don't worry, the victims all seem to deserve it - with and edge, since the rookie wants revenge for his father's death, not knowing who is responsible. The level of action is more than sufficient and Statham is, I think, at his best when he plays a smart character (or streetsmart, if you like), and the two stars have good chemistry and contrast. There's a completely gratuitous sex scene in Act 1, which makes it look like someone was working from the Statham playbook instead of doing the story justice, but Foster's character, with his tortured soul and death wish, generates enough pathos to make The Mechanic rise above its exploitative moments.
A typical Jason Statham film! As long as you watch it with the understanding that it will be over the top and not to be taken seriously you will enjoy it!

Not the greatest; not the worst. Pretty much exactly middle of the road as action movies go.modelno1
I have never seen that many microphones and dirty camera lenses.fjcaetano

Loved this film. The brutality makes it something else, and Jason Statham is badass as usual.thecaptain217
