Awful adaptation of one of my favourite book series. Was too fast paced for non-fans of the book to keep up, changed things for what seems to be no reason what-so-ever and constantly had too many characters on-screen at all times. Did not cover enough of the history for viewers to understand what was happening, why it was happening, and who everyone is. The movie let plot twists out of the bag too early so failed to build suspense. There was no character development, in-fact viewers don't even get the opportunity to learn about a character before the next one is introduced. If they plan on continuing this series (which seems to be the case) then they have a lot of work to do. Its a shame.

If you thought it would be like Harry Potter + Twillight + other fantasy films... you're wrong. It's a big disappointment.

Some of the worst editing, dialogue, acting, and all-around storytelling I've seen in a major motion picture. Inexplicably bad.

As someone who hasn't read the books I felt this started strong with all the Lena Heady stuff, but once she leaves the main story it takes a massive nosedive into snore city. I don't actually remember the last hour of the movie cause I gave up caring when it became about androgynous incestuous love. Couldn't care less. Also, a major waste of Robert Sheehan.

Hilariously bad pacing, script and plot. Having not read the books, and with the complete absence of any sort of character development within the movie, I was left in wonderment as to why all of this stuff what happening - and there was certainly a lot of 'stuff' going on. Every cliché 'twist' you could possibly think to include in a production within the YA fantasy-type genre, happened - all of it, it seems, within the last 40 or so minutes. With that being said, I enjoyed watching the movie, but only because the thing was wonderfully funny to me. So by all means go and see this movie, but do not expect to take it seriously.

I had written a ridiculously long critique on this film before my browser crashed, but, to put it simply, City of Bones was not good in any way, and if I were involved in the casting of the leads, the screenwriting or the directing, I would be ashamed to show my head in public ever again.

Oscar Pool Stash Forced Watch: I guess if you absolutely need another "chosen one" Young Adult story, there's The Mortal Instruments - City of Bones. To say it borrows from a bunch of other fantasy properties (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Harry Potter, Underworld, Twilight, Star Wars...) is perhaps a bit charitable. There's in fact very little in this that feels fresh. Are the books as creatively bankrupt? Oh, there are a couple of interesting monsters, but the heroine with the dreadful YA-style name of Clary Fray spends the entire movie standing around gawking or getting rescued, or else discovering, rather randomly, her magical powers. It's poorly written, with characters contradicting themselves sometimes in the span of a single scene. In the final balance, there's too much set-up for what ultimately failed to become a viable franchise, and the romance therefore comes off as creepy for its ambivalence.

Alright CGI and definitely better than Twilight, still very boring. Couldn't even watch it to the end.

Somehow this reminded me of awful times that I had with twilight. But only Lily Collins had better facial expressions than Kristen Stewart.

Just like every other young adult fantasy book series adapted into a movie. Not very good, incredibly stupid, but it has it's moments. I liked the fight sequences and there were some beautiful shots in other scenes too. The story wasn't great, and even for someone who hasn't read the books, it was obvious that things were missing. Clearly not a very well done adaption, but I mostly enjoyed my time in the cinema. At least when I wasn't embarassed by shiny flowers and sprinklers. And there was Kevin Zegers. Kevin Zegers makes everything worthwhile.

The only good thing about this movie was the hot blond guy. And to think that I wanted to read the books..
