Really Good movie but not a horror film. Not even a suspense thriller. It is more of a crime revenge style of movie. Great Acting and amazing how they made Lon Chaney seem like he is missing both legs without using trick photography, must have been super painful and uncomfortable for him to move around, sit and hop to the ground int hat getup. Well worth a view.

Those complaining about the score should see the version on Blu-Ray from Kino. It is the way I saw it and it had a great score in a style that is more expected for a silent film. I liked the film a lot and found it easy to get through. I loved seeing one of Lon Cheney's early films that made him popular and he does a great job of convincing the audience that he has no legs.

Great movie, great acting, but this "horror" genre is a really stupid mistake.

The version I watched had some awful music and even worse sound effects. It's a silent film, do we really need gunshots?

I agree. The musical score was annoying and distracting. Although i do have to admit it seemed to add drama to the sinister parts of the movie. Still, I wound up turning the volumn all the way down after about five minutes. I'd rather watch a silent movie in silence than with an annoying score.

The best films with hearth are those where they retract after pressing a secret button. So sexy.

Unlike the rest of you, I somewhat liked the industrial soundtrack; it added to the sinister mood of most of the film. I didn't think it was great, but I liked it. Then again, I've liked quite a few industrial soundtracks to silents.

Chaney is impressive as ever, but the score is beyond weird - the industrial pounding sure annoyed the hell out of me.
