I had always heard about Anne Bancroft's performance in this. However, after watching The Pumpkin Eater, it really is criminal that she lost to Julie Christie that year. 8 years 7 months ago -

I just watched this after finishing the novel. Bancroft is truly great. A correction to the comment above though. She lost the Oscar to another Julie, Andrews not Christie. Also a great performance by the light great Peter Finch. 2 years 1 month ago
