It's a weird phrase, but this movie is really comfortable.

Ben Stiller should hang around more often with directors like Wes.

This movie is very nice. I love this type of comedy, for me this is the "real" comedy. And it also has one of the best soundtracks ever. Bob Dylan, The Clash, Ramones, The Velvet Underground, Lennon/Beatles. Some of the best artists/bands ever, in just one soundtrack. Very good!

One of my favorite things about the film is how much attention is paid to the little details - the things going on in the background are often just as "controlled" and "fine-tuned" as the rest of the film. So I can't really agree that "lots of little things could have been improved slightly" or that the film is "overestimated" - it's simply one of the warmest, most wonderful films to come around in a long time.

The Royal Tenenbaums perfects Anderson's style and tells the story of a peculiar family brought back together when the estranged dad (Gene Hackman) returns for selfish reasons, telling everyone he's dying. His kids were all over-achievers as children, which has made them despondent failures as adults, and though it's all very quirky and exaggerated, there's real heart to it too. The performances are real, and the sadness permeating the film makes the characters genuinely connect even if it wasn't their intention. One of the things I find incredible about Anderson's output is that while Hollywood warns movie makers away from working with children and animals, he always uses both to great effect.

Meh. The lack of story was a problem for me to get over and I didn't find the characters particularly sympathetic or interesting. The humor wasn't wry or clever.

I fought to stay awake, honestly.

I know that will spawn scores of pretentious comments suggesting I go back to watching movies 'more my speed' like 'Fast Five' and 'Epic Movie' and such. But I don't care. I didn't see a classic, I saw an emperor with no clothes.

I don't know what's with Wes Anderson movies that makes it so comfortable... like it's familiar in a way. Maybe it's the great color scheme and symmetry of the shots, and the very polite dialogues even when the characters are arguing.

It's been too long since I've seen a movie this good.

Yes, you might not really laugh out loud in the movie, but it was pretty good, just leaves you satisfied and smiling in the end...

My favourite Ben Stiller performance. This type of role is great for him.
This awkward family portrayal was spot on. Loved it.
