Movies like these actually making money is the reason why movie goers will only ever get the movies they deserve: big cast, moronic plot, special effects. No heart. Bleh.

It was okay. Definitely Neil Patrick Harris was eye candy. The movie was tolerable in every sense. I just smile whenever I see Neil appear onscreen. Other than that, it was okay, just.

The Smurfs visit modern-day New York City and inadvertently help Neil Patrick Harris carry off an ad campaign and come to terms with his soon becoming a father while he helps them get back to the Village before Gargamel sweats the essence out of them in what was almost a sweet, not quite all ages comedy with CG characters running around. I don't think director Raja Gosnell (Home Alone 3, Big Momma's House, Beverly Hills Chihuahua) actually understands story telling and tone enough to make that work. WHO IS THIS MOVIE FOR? The kiddies, obviously - I know my sister complained about her kids wanting to see it frequently when they were younger - but if that's who you're making it for, the Brokeback Mountain and Marilyn Munroe on an air vent jokes are at once impenetrable and inappropriate. And if that's the bit for adults so THEY can enjoy it too, I'm afraid you lost THAT audience's good will when you decided to picture Gargamel peeing in the middle of a restaurant. The moral of the story is out of focus and keeps changing, plots are set up then abandoned, and product placement takes over entire scenes (Smurfs playing Guitar Hero and somehow knowing Aerosmith songs by heart?).

Simply Smurfy. :)
More than anything I'm glad they didn't ruin some cherished childhood memories of that show. They stayed true to the spirit of the original characters while making it a modern interesting storyline & setting.

Some parts are irrelevant to the others, but who can avoid those smurfingly adorable little blue creatures? Neil Pattrick Harris lost his charisma he has in HIMYM, though seems quite lovely to see him with Jayma Mays. The important thing is: who is Gargamel without Azrael? Seriously, that cat steals the show!

It was an alright movie, my niece and nephew really seemed to enjoy it, and the kids in the audience really enjoyed it. Sure it didn't get too many good reviews by the critics, but there's only one thing to keep in mind about movies like these, guys like me isn't the movie's main demographic - in the same way that middle aged movie critics are not its demographic either. So if it succeeds in entertaining its demographic, it's a success.

I liked it :) I'm in love with Neil Patrick Harris in How I Met Your Mother, Jayma Mays in Glee and Sofia Vergara in Modern Family, so I really enjoyed it! Plus, those creatures are adorable *_*
