Strong performances from the entire cast, tense direction, and heart-pounding heist scenes keep this film from sliding into a forgettable cops-and-robbers movie. Instead, The Town is a film worthy of its accolades. Affleck proves here that he deserved that Good Will Hunting oscar after all.

Involving, solid acting, and some great car chases.

Ben Affleck's The Town refers to a rough Boston neighborhood called Charlestown, which has apparently produced more bank robbers than any other place in the world, and Affleck uses real cases as fodder for this story of a tortured bank robber who wants out after falling for a bank manager (Rebecca Hall) one of his crew (the now ubiquitous Jeremy Renner) briefly took hostage. Meanwhile, the FBI (led by Don Draper--I mean Jon Hamm) is closing in. It's not an original story, but it's one that's well told. The action set pieces are exciting, the robbers are clever, and the drama is well acted. Affleck manages to get some big actors in small parts, but also use a lot of local color, casting the real people of Charlestown in bit parts so he could have authenticating experts on set.

Really enjoyed this one. I watched the extended cut and it probably could have had some fat trimmed. Next time I will stick the theatrical cut on.

Watched the extended cut, makes it slower but works great. Good solid action drama. Predictable but good

The movie is good, not excellet, but good. The movie could've been excellent... but Ben Affleck ruins it. The direction is not bad, but his acting is ridiculous... I don't know, Ben Affleck should stay behind the cameras, not in front of them. Let's see if Terrence Malick can show us a different face of this actor. 8 out of 10.

Bleh. Ridiculously convenient (read: contrived) plot points and dialogue. I found this movie tedious.

Very nice. I appreciated the way it was shot. A great heist film with a nice side love story.

I saw this with a friend at Regal Cinemas in Boston on Brookline Ave. Minutes later we were walking "the set". It was pretty surreal for me... we even found the same mailbox shown in the movie (those who have seen it will know what I'm talking about)... although they took some slight liberties with how that was set up.

Cool scenes, great actors, great performances by Affleck and Jeremy Renner.
I prefer other heist movies, but this one is very good.
The Town is one of those movies when you cheer the bad guys, and that is fine.
