Quite surprisingly this puzzle/film noir turned out to be much more intriguing than what first seemed like a small B-thriller. Very moody and suspenseful, it tangles a very wellspun net around you. Much of that must be credited to future Hammer Horror director John Gilling.
The cast is of course exemplary: Valerie Hobson, James Robertson Justice, Edward Underwood, Gary Marsh and Henry Kendall. Everyone very good, very British and also very hard to sympathize with. Everything seems easily understandable in the beginning, but gets more and more complicated along the way.
Certainly deserving a larger audience. 9 years 3 months ago
