Scorsese tempts you with this world, but he gives you little slaps that grow in power as things get more repetitive, empty, violent and absurd. But the ending, quite possibly one of Scorsese's bleakest, tells the truth that no one wants to realize within themselves: people want to be Belfort. Many people. Not even after knowing what he did. Many people want to be him and live his lifestyle. This stance on temptation is classic Scorsese, one of the most religious of filmmakers.

Enjoyable but overrated, and a bit overlong. Scorsese is cruising on established formula here, and there's barely enough plot to cover the run time, but there are still plenty of fun moments and sharp points, and it's generally absorbing throughout, just nothing absolutely revolutionary, with the exception of DiCaprio who owns the screen and drives a lot of the film in an awards-worthy performance.. Overall? It's solid, yet I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have, for it being a film filled with scumbag characters getting wasted, there's precious little dynamics, grey area or even any sense of moral colour, and not a hint of real reform or hope that things might get better. Morally and emotionally the film feels rather one note, and the explicit content is a bit wearing. The end shot seems to suggest that we, the audience, clamor for this decadence, but I'd just hope that after this cheeky yet one-note fling in the land of the one-eyed king, that at least some would find that idea just a little bit boring.

EDIT - I enjoyed it a lot more the second time - the black humour really rings through, even if the characters themselves are literally impenetrably childish and empty, that seems to accelerate the absurdity. It's definitely still rather overdone in runtime and content (I'm far from a prude, don't give a damn about the cussing, sex or drugs here and really don't think anyone else should either) , but that might have been the point, and whilst the film's style is epic, brash, funny, paced, and very Scorsese, it's still a bit too long, simplistic yet overcooked and unsympathetic. A flawed masterpiece that deserves better than boring discussions over how many orgies are too many.

I think this movie is destined to be a cult classic. First of all this movie does make a smart commentary on how these men are criminals who hoards of people view as legitimate successes. It also does paint Belfort as a disgusting criminal. So to say that this movie is glorifying or making excuses is not right. The movie takes you into the mindset of these crazy people to see what makes them be the way they are, so it doesn't make outside judgements. This man lived an out of control life, and if you read the book you'd see that little was embellished. Most of all this movie is crazy, crazy fun. I need to see this movie again, and it definitely has flaws, but I think it might just be great.

I found this to be one of the most disappointing movies I've seen in years. The plot is basically non-existent, yet the film is somehow stretched out too an excessive 180 minutes. The sex and drugs are reiterated to the point of cliche, and the acting performances (i.e. DiCaprio's) have, in my opinion, been highly overrated by the public/media.

The film has its funny moments, but suffers something of an identity crisis in that respect. Is it meant to be an out and out comedy? I saw an interview with DiCaprio where he was reluctant to answer that question affirmatively. Well, whatever Scorsese meant for it, I don't think he pulled it off successfully. The film is crafted like a Goodfellas for the banking industry - with a narrator protagonist, charting his meteoric rise and fall over 2+ hours. But the content just doesn't transpose well. Shame. I reckon it'd make a pretty good book though...

A little superficial, with lots of cliches. It isn't a consistent parody, nor a reliable story.

Very overrated. Superficial movie potraying jackasses that destroy everything around them. And in the end you're supposed to cheer for them. Too much sex, drugs, nudity and violence just for the heck of it.

And at the "comedy" scenes, you were supposed to laugh at how drunk and high they were. "HAHA, he can't drive because he has taken drugs!! Funny!"..

And every women felt like a whore and even if they weren't they were "rewarded" by taking their clothes of. And yes, I know this is supposed to be based on a true story, but that doesn't really change anything.

Scorsese is a master of epic rise and fall stories. This is classic Scorsese, perhaps with a more dominating element of comedy compared to what we've seen from him before.

The Wolf seems to be divided into three genres, and if you like, three acts. First there's the comedy, then there's the crime, then comes the drama. All acts are wildly entertaining. DiCaprio pulls off the performance expected from him, although McConaughey is the one that really shines in the all too few scenes we get to see him.

I can't help but comparing parts of this film to Glengarry Glen Ross. And those parts fall short. The script may be part of the reason, but DiCaprio's speeches don't stick in the same way that Pacino's did. DiCaprio's character does however deliver some memorable quotes, not unlike Gordon Gekko.

The Wolf of Wall Street is a hybrid of Wall Street, Glengarry and Casino. At the same time it manages to stand on it's own.

Scorsese the true master of making biographies involving crime, mafia and drugs. This time makes an attempt at showcasing white collar crime and the dilemma every human faces - doing the conscientious thing in a world filled with temptation. I can tell you my honest opinion in the first half of the movie , you just want to be Jordan Belfort, my blood was pumping, heart racing and I knew that I have to come up with ways to make more money and was drawn to the temptation and lifestyle. Towards the end of the movie, dealing with harsh realities you feel sad and know that every crook's reign of terror has an end. The best part of the movie was the last scene where people still are taking his coaching classes or seminars to learn to be like him even though they knew he was a scumbag who robbed the world of it's riches. I don't understand why people are being so critical about this genuine portrayal of human temptation. The highlight of the movie was DiCaprio deciding not to quit and admitting that he will not be an Hypocrite. That to me was someone being honest and straightforward with their path in life and not backing off when felt threatened. Ofcourse he was a crook, but atleast not an hypocrite.

This movie is all about the second part of it. The first part tends to be boring but then, when the first half is done; all the fun begins!

Not Scorsese's best obviously as it lacks the stylistic element one loves about his movies like: Taxi Driver and Goodfellas. But still definitely a good watch and a fun ride. The chemistry between Leonardo Dicaprio and Jonah Hill is just undeniable and inarguable; one of the best things about this movie to be honest.

I enjoyed it. It was entertaining retread of Goodfellas in a lot of good (sorry) ways: story in media res, smash zooms left and right, incongruous music, protagonist's narration and breaking of the 4th wall, and narrative themes (moral debauchery, anything for a $, never know who you can trust).

Sure, Scorsese is not covering any new ground here. And the story leaves something to be desired at key points. But let's give the guy a pass. I mean, he did create a handful of the greatest films in modern American cinema and influence a legion of worthy filmmakers. I'm almost certainly driving onto the freeway of fanboy-ism here, but whatever he does is OK by me (as long as it's not The Departed).
