I remember seeing this when it was first aired on TV in the 80s. Scared the living bejeezus out of me. Watched it again recently and it is still as scary.
Jesus christ, the comments here scared the hell out of me!
For the film itself, I tried to like it. It didn't really touch me, although i wanted it to, but it constantly reminded me of how Imamura's Black Rain blew my mind.
this movie has little to do with the so-called disturbing movies. It didnt shock, or disturb me or whatsoever, but indeed it made me think about which scenario we could face after such an apocalypse.
It's similar to The day after, but it isn't mawkish at all.
An average black propaganda movie. especially the last 30 minutes or so of this movie is depicted so unrealistically that İ laughed my arse of. how come a nucleaur holocaust causes the linguistic information to wither away is a question to be asked. "mommy, mommy! work! work!" this has absolutely nothing to do with mental retardation which has been depicted in the movie. If you want to watch a more relevant movie on this issue I strongly recommend dead man's letters.
