   A very well crafted film. The narrative has an alternate parallel reality kind of treatment,.simply a WWII story set in present day Europe. Uses some props from 1940s but mixed with modern equipments, police gears, guns, new cars and streets. One might find it somewhat off, but the movie was rewarding for me. It is deeply affecting, by seldom showing anything. 3 years 12 months ago

   This could count as a spoiler.. but it is something I wish someone hold told me before I saw it, as I spent a large chunk of the film missing something..
   
   So spoiler alert, at your own peril, or edification..
   
   Although this film seems set, very much in today.. The military have bang up to date weaponry, all the cars, shops etc are modern..
   The book is written during the last war
   Being an oldie, and very, very low tech myself.. I didn't pick up the hint that ..

   Nobody had mobile phones and there were no computers.
   I think this was supposed to show us this was a 1940's setting, but, sort of, done in modern dress.
   Imagine a Shakespeare history set in a modern city, with Julius Caesar as a sort of Boris Johnson character trying to seize power.
   It makes it a lot clearer.
   I mean, I just couldn't grasp why, in 2018, Germany was invading France.. Just didn't make any sense..
   
   I hope this didn't spoil it, and in fact helped someone grasp it quicker than I did.. 4 years 5 months ago

   Torgo

   I was confused by the "contemporary setting of historical events" twist to the film, which isn't a Sixth-Sense-like twist, but just somehow assumed; weird decision. Then I was additionally distracted by the pronunciation and utterance of the main figure, to which another narrator was added. Hm.
   A book-like film (based on an autobiographical novel), but at the same time not so literary. Previous Petzold films were more to my liking.
