did not like it, too much hodge podgenicolaskrizan
clever and entertaining, but too much of a construction – not in the book, and rightfully sohttp://1001movies.posterous.com/

Woody Allen's Spanish summer RomCom with shifting love triangles supported by a simple narration. 7/10.Follow me on Twitter @LastFilmSeen

Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) takes us to Spain, where Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) meet a real live Casanova (Javier Bardem) who invites them into his bed, one where his disturbed ex-wife (Penélope Cruz) could show up in with a knife any time. The sense of place is again flawless, trading on Spain's most romantic qualities. How will these impact women of a different temperament? Vicky, who seeks comfort and stability, and Cristina, who favors spontaneity and novelty. Both will find something to love in this man, and both will find their world view distorted into a new shape, which is really the point of setting most of the film in Gaudi's Barcelona. To an outsider, like Vicki's husband, the women's feelings are incomprehensible. They make no sense. One must have Gaudi's eye to accept these illogical permutations. Cruz steals the show however, with a visceral performance well worthy of the Oscar she got for it. Fierce and sexy.IreneAdler
An unusual but very nice movie. Lovely atmosphere, set in a great and artistic city. I like the way different concepts of love, passion and relationships are explored and how different the two girls mentioned in the title are.Actors: I always like Scarlett Johansson. Penelope Cruz' acting was brilliant; passion, despair, fire - everything was believable. Javier Bardem's character was charming and also quite vulnerable and artistic. I enjoyed watching this movie a lot.
A comment on the narrator: Some find that extremely great, some find it annoying. I have to say I pretty much ignored it. For me it was sometimes a source of an additional information, but it found it neither very special or creative nor did it annoy me.

Charming movie, only the ending was a bit light. Great scenery and Javier Bardem was excellentpeggypotts
best thing about this film is the setting, which was beautiful. the story started strong and the shifting emotional relationships are interesting enough to keep you watching, but it's nothing amazing. however, it's nice to see polyamory represented without judgment in a relatively mainstream film. overall: worth a watch.daisyaday
For some reason, Woody chose to have this annoying third-person narrator to explain and connect the scenes instead of letting the scenes carry the story; it doesn't work.Llanirev
Great first half, but the second half was feeling like a very complicated way to get to the ending. Don't see how Cruz' performance was worth an oscar. I liked the other nominees better.giin
You really get to feel the spirit of Barcelona while watching.NikolinaSredic
