I am an avid fan of watching the Hallmark/Lifetime slew of holiday movies and this one was definitely towards the bottom of the list.
The chemistry was off, the emotions were either overly done (lead actress) or under done (lead actor). I think I would prefer to see what the lead actor's sister would be like in a lead role. She at least, had some flair to her.
Not sure if it was just the writing, but the writing and the acting were definitely flat.
Do yourself a favor and stick to the original animated version. Minus the damsel-in-distress b.s. Disney is known for, the original beats this horrible rendition in every other way, hands down.
The actors are extremely flat (from trying to emote a regular scene to the songs themselves). The Jafar in this is practically comical at just how bad of a villain this actor portrays him as. It felt as if they were so focused on getting the 'look' right when casting, that they forget the actors need to have talent as well.
Definitely a whole different take than the t.v. show. But overall, decent. Just honestly, ENOUGH WITH THE NAKEDNESS! Jesus! It would have been better without all the boob shots.
Ikkegoemikke, i didn't read your whole review, but right off the bat in your first paragraph after the picture you posted, the main character was shot in the head by fleeing from rapists who were attacking his friend/love interest, not robbers.
In case you wanted to update your comment to make it more accurate.
Pretty much just two vigilante-like cops, with the occasional educated line to show that they may actually know things and yet all they do is strut around, beat on people and throw f-bombs ever chance they can, which apparently is 9/10 out of every page of the script.
I had originally intended to listen to the audiobook for this before watching the movie, but I have been waiting over a month from my library, so I just decided I would do the movie first.
I know books are 99.9% better than the movies, but after seeing this and getting the main gist, I find I have no inclination to read the book.
I am an avid read and a movie buff so thanks Tim for saving me hours reading. I can continue on with my Goodreads list of over 2000 books waiting for me to read.
For the movie's purposes, I found the characters rather flat, and the storyline lacking and rather boring.
Such a waste of time. And the guy who looks almost 60 getting the late 20's/early 30's woman at the end was such a cliche b.s. They had no chemistry. Ugh Hollywood and the whole 'use the pretty female as an object to help stroke the guy's ego' is soooooo frustrating and annoying. Enough is enough!
This movie was no where even in the same planet as the original; complete and utter trash.
I don't understand the snubbing of this movie. It was made to tell a story based on real events. It did its job in a decent way. The 'slow' plotline people complain about is more about creating detail and letting us into the ordeal the doctor and those who teamed up with him went through.
This movie's entire basis was to bring to light the fight of a doctor and those who believed in him even with the adversity of a sport empire shoving him back down.
Why do we say how great players, coaches, and sport-driven films are when I have seen many, many sport films that are very redundant and cliched.
It seems people create these pedestals for people who just play a sport, one of which creates turmoil, rage, and acts of violence we should NOT be passing down to each generation and yet many still do, but those who fight for the actual safety of those players, the ones who care, the ones who try to show TRUE teamwork and comradery are sadly forced in the corner, gagged or are told to shut up in no uncertain terms.
For those who have not seen the 80's cartoon, so are viewing this movie with no frame of reference - the movie has a classic tween/teen plot but one which is actually on the clean-cut side with a good message of believing in yourself and following your own path.
The lyrics and music weren't great but they also weren't bad. The lyrics themselves gave their own positive messages which were nicely written and the musicality was coherent, somewhat catchy and at times harmonious which gave it a nice sound.
I don't understand the slack people are giving to this, mainly because it was based on something that happened 30 years ago... of course they need to modernize it.
Compared to many movies out there for this age range that are all about romance, violence and many other negative aspects, this movie at least helps share a positive message and is family-friendly.

If you want to watch Mulan, stick to the original animated version. This was a waste in many ways.Movie comment on A Night at the Follies

Was the stage slippery? Many routines looked like the dancer was stopping herself from sliding around. The dancers looked like they didn't practice much before filming. The singular blonde in the second act just kept looking down and she looked bored.
The men doing the comedy routine were eh. Rather boring.
Evelyn West's first single bit was hiccupy. Stating lines that are supposed to be humorous with no humor whatsoever.
And then I skipped around for the rest of it. I was entirely bored.
