A fun movie that really takes advantage of the comic concepts like team-ups and other dimensions. That’s all I can really say. I grew up reading Spider-Man comics and it felt like a cool extension of that. If I was a young kid, I’d probably be blown away. Since I am an adult, these big blockbuster films rarely ever do that anymore.

Some episodes I kind of checked out of, but the finale was great.

Kind of predicts David Lynch’s career. I’m seeing bits of Twin Peaks and Mulholland Dr. here… I loved it. Just don’t go into it looking for a concise story or memorable dialogue. It’s all about tone and feeling. Past, present and future blur together to form a semi-coherent story of dreading, guilt, grief and the ptsd that comes from surviving an intense tragedy.

Stallone’s not the biggest problem. It’s Rob Schneider’s stupid sidekick character. Why would you do that to Dredd? There’s humor in the comics, but an American studio doesn’t know what to do with it because it’s British humor.

There’s something wrong when this show is not on a single official list.

I think I rank it around a mid-tier Marvel movie. The characters are hard to relate to, but I love seeing all these big cosmic concepts and it’s gorgeous. I’d say it’s the best looking Marvel film, but Zhao’s other films looked beautiful as well, so I should have expected that. I am a Marvel comics fan and a Jack Kirby fan in particular, so it was great to see something solely created by him on the screen. Was this the first (very short) sex scene in a Marvel movie? It gets extra points just for that since these movies are usually so sexless.

Compared to the other 2021 Marvel films, I enjoyed it about the same as Black Widow and Shang-Chi, and probably a little more than WandaVision and Loki, and way more than the Falcon & Winter Soldier. Like I said, I’m coming at this movie as a Kirby fan so I might be biased.

Like 4 episodes in so far and it seems a lot duller than the previous seasons and movie… missing the group of friends to liven things up.

I’ve got this film on DVD, and I can tell it’s a great film, but the DVD looks so bad, like a bad VHS. It really needs a blu-ray release because it’s painful to watch this way. I think it might be on the Criterion Channel streaming service so I have to believe it looks better there, but I don’t have a subscription there yet. Next time I watch this, I’ll try it there and see if it looks better.

Not completely terrible for a film made straight-to-rest home.

Also: what’s the deal with the Italian couple that get checked into the hotel and then are never heard from again? It felt like the set-up to something that never got paid off.

While watching, I was thinking about how great horror films like The Exorcist or Psycho keep your eyes riveted to the screen and I couldn’t stop looking away during this, despite the amount of female nudity on display, something I usually enjoy. There’s an ok line every once in a while, but it just isn’t enough to keep me interested.

Silly fun, but could have done without the supernatural element. The evil German was more than enough villain for one film and the CGI villains felt too indebted to the Pirates films.

Heist movies need a big cast of bonafide charming movie stars, which don’t seem to exist anymore. This movie is neither bad nor good. It simply exists. I can’t get worked up one way or the other. Perhaps if this was the first film I ever saw, I would be impressed but since I’ve seen a million movies like this, it simply fails to even garner any kind of reaction.

I should have been tipped off by the boring title.

Ralf, you may be right but a lot of these Italian productions had no sound on set at all. A lot of the time all sound is dubbed in post-production including incidental sound like footsteps, doors opening and closing, etc. The Italians worked this way back then because their studios weren’t soundproofed like in Hollywood, and also because so much of their revenue was dependent on foreign markets that they needed multiple soundtracks. This is why there are many European films that are co-produced by multiple countries, to maximize their demographic target.

Favorited the film simply because I’m impressed with a film that looked this good for $50,000.

I feel like Herzog seems to have a great empathy for the friends of Treadwell. I think he shows wisdom here by not trying to include the death audio within the film and tells Treadwell’s friend to destroy the tape. I might be mistaken but a younger filmmaker might have attempted to use the tape for some kind of shock value.

I enjoyed the film but am still uncertain about who would actually listen to a radio show like the one in the film. It kind of reminded me of Clint Eastwood’s ridiculous radio show in Play Misty for Me but even worse.

A fascinating film. References to Night of the Hunter made it even stronger. Fantastic soundtrack. Made me think, not just about the film, but about similar traumatic situations I’ve either heard about from either on the news, or about someone I know in my life.

I thought the blowjob lips makeup scene was a little over the top, but I just searched for it on YouTube and saw there are multiple tutorials, so that shows how much I know.

I was thinking this would be better if it wasn’t so bloodless. Kong finally kills something at the halfway point and drinks the brains of whatever out of its skull, and it would have been way more entertaining if the entire movie was like this. Unfortunately, it’s just not violent enough, which seems antithetical to the entire concept of a movie about monsters fighting. They turned them into Pokémon. It was still mildly entertaining, but it panders to children, not unlike the Godzilla films from the late 60s and 70s (not the original from the 50s which is actually scary.) Also, why does this take place in Hong Kong for no reason? Shouldn’t it be Tokyo?

Outdated? Well, yeah, it’s 65 years old. James Dean would be like 90 years old now if he hadn’t died so young. I don’t even know how you could watch an old film and not expect it to age. If you think this, you’re probably the type of person that’ll be complaining 50 years from now that films aren’t any good anymore because you can’t relate to them anymore. The film isn’t the problem, you are. Of course, the way people talk and dress are going to be entirely different, but the themes are universal. Growing up, getting over your head, finding your place in the world and learning how to be a man are all timeless and won’t ever change.

The main problem with this movie is that the soundtrack has come to overshadow the film. It’s hard to believe “the kid” is supposed to be struggling with his act while pumping out hit after iconic hit. It is also hard to believe that The Time is up to the challenge of being the rival band. Prince’s charisma will make any other band look like an also-ran. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a strong film with great music but it is a little difficult to look past some of these things.

This movie hit too close to home for me. It was so painful that I had to watch it over three days because I kept having to turn it off.
