I tought it was pretty good. But since it won the genie award for best film, at the Jutra awards also, toronto festival' best film, at least 6 other international prizes, and has been nominated for best foreing film at the oscars, you can assume it's at least worth the watch.

The huge buzz around that movie is that it's disgusting at an extreme level. I agree that it sometimes is, but it is absolutely not the goriest of all, like lots of people often pretend it is. These people just haven't seen many gore movies in my opinion.

Anyway, the movie is using the ''snuff movie'' style to make it look real, but if you think about it just a little bit, you know it's not. I say this because i've seen people asking if it was real... come on... But even though it's a low-budget gore movie, it's pretty bad. The atmosphere is certainly creepy, but the music, the visuals, the editing and amateur filmmaking are all ruining what could have been a truly traumatising experience. The question we all ask ourselves about that kind of movie is Why would someone want so see this? Because it's almost nothing more than a guy torturing to death 3 girls in aweful ways, in a tiny room for ~100 minutes and making it look real by filming it with a Handycam in poor quality, like a real killer would do...

Well, I think the answer varies a lot, but the reason is always very subjective. For me, it was curiousity, because I've heared in a horror class at the university, by the teacher!, that it was a perticularly chocking and disturbing movie, and I wanted to know why. For others, it can just be a way to challenge themselves to be grossed out ... for fun.

So anyway, some persons might want to see this, but by having seen other extreme gore low buget snuff-like movies like that, I find it somewhat effective, but totally bad.

Toplist comment on Canadian submissions for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film

In fact, it is not. The academy award for best foreign language film can only be given to a non-english speaking movie. That's the reason why Canada can only suggest french speaking movies or silent movies to the Academy... I feel sometimes it is a bit unfair for the rest the canadian film industry, but at least there is the annual Genie Award ceremony... but Quebec movies have been pretty succesful there too.
