Good afternoon, this message is from ICheckMovies. I hope you're doing well and spending these final hours at peace with your loved ones. Rest assured we'll make every attempt to keep the website up until the end. Thank you.
What a strange movie, and a strange reaction that Americans have to it.
It's not just propaganda, but the main character is someone who bought into previous propaganda and is upset that the real world is different from the legends of governments past.
Jefferson, Hamilton, Washington, et al were all human beings who were greedy and petty and compromised on their ideals. The government of Capra's time or today's time is the same as it's ever been. People looking out for themselves.
Cinematically and thematically, this movie isn't very good.
Way better than expected. Really good cast for it's release time. Really captures that aimless hedonistic monotonous lifestyle of working in a chain restaurant in your 20s in the US during the 90s.
Obviously the words "Don't worry about it, this is a low budget movie so people will be forgiving" were spoken many, many times during the making of this movie.
I kinda like the fan-theory that Daniel is the real bully. He
also is the first to start fights while Johnny defends himself and it's reckless that he doesn't bother to learn any of the rules of the karate tournament. Plus, of course, he wins with a kick to the face.
The Men's Rights advocates dominate the majority of the POV and their stories are never fact-checked or their positions challenged. At one point you get a guy telling his personal experience of losing custody and we literally only hear his side of the story and take him at his word. Court documents must be available! Why didn't you put them in your movie!
There are plenty of men that have no power and I feel bad that they feel powerless. But women aren't the ones oppressing them. They powerlessness is used as a weapon against people trying to challenge the powerful men that are the cause of everyone's suffering.
MRA aren't helping anybody. They especially aren't helping men.
I also disagree with selcukgucer.
I thought this was extremely well executed. All the actors are in top form and the stirring optimistic speeches are stirring and optimistic. If anything the story was a little lacking. Just very straightforward with minimal twists and turns.

Obviously heavily inspired by Guy Ritchie films like Lock, Stock... and Snatch, but with a much lower budget. Still, a fair effort.Plus it's the film debuts for both Ricky Gervais and David Oyelowo.

Halfway through watching this I had a fleeting thought of "what if this was directed by Werner Hertzog" and I had to go lie down.Excellent documentary otherwise.
