Fans of Malick's The New World: SEE THIS. A really beautiful, poetic film with a fascinating setting. Loved it.

Another thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this website. You have every right to resign your duties, although I admit I'm very pleased one of you is staying :-)

A very powerful, almost uncomfortably intimate drama with two superb lead performances. Really, really good.

I thought this was really messy, and Mitchum seems to be sleeping through the role (while Teresa Wright is just annoying). Thumbs down, sorry.

Oh man, what a delight this film is! For anyone with an interest in classic Hollywood it is pure gold. Love the Chaplin cameo!

Comparisons with Tarkovsky are not merited. Tarkovsky made beautiful, peaceful, deeply profound films. This - despite being technically impressive - is the complete opposite of that.

Starts brilliantly, but goes downhill and feels a bit silly once Ida Lupino appears...the snowy setting is great though.

Charming - that's the word for this film!

Very interesting companion piece to The Act of Killing, this time showing things from "the side" of the victims. It's a more traditional documentary than its predecessor, which unfortunately makes it slightly less memorable, and since we're hearing much of the same shocking material again it doesn't have quite the same impact. I say that, but it's still extremely powerful and memorable. It just had a hell of an Act (pun intended) to follow. All told, another excellent film that will make you despair at what humanity is capable of (thankfully, countered by the tenderness between Adi and his elderly parents - who are the stars of the film by the way).

It literally is a moving painting, heh.

Really cheesy and dumb - more so than I expected - but it helps that it doesn't take itself seriously (although it is tonally all over the place in that regard). Fairly entertaining, but definitely ridiculous.

Roy Andersson's films occupy a world of their own, but offer an incredible insight into the human condition. Mundanity and absurdity combine to create something very profound. I find myself laughing, squirming, and wanting to cry all at the same time...What a trilogy.

A fantastically stylish film. I had a couple of issues with it, but only minor ones and ultimately it's a must-see for cinephiles. Peter Strickland is a director to be very excited about.

This feels just like a Michael Moore film. Fun, engaging, pacy, investigative, thought-provoking, and uses its subject matter to more widely explore the problems in American culture. Great stuff!

Not much of anything going on here. I'm sure that's the point, but...meh.

Dirk Bogarde at his wonderful best...and an excellent film overall, definitely deserves to be on some lists.

The star of this film is the photography. It's just a shame the actual stars feel miscast and the story is pretty underdeveloped...I still liked it for the mood and imagery, but it could've been better.

Only for people who can tolerate heavy surrealism, but if you can - this is a real treat.

I'm really meant to buy the relationship between those two? It isn't remotely believable.
