Jimbo - I find it odd though that countries like Iran, which is probably the country that's on the worst terms with the west is such a popular movie country, and has several films on this list, when you claim that people only run to their comfort zones. I'm perfectly willing to believe that there's tons of great cinema from the countries you mention, but for some reason they haven't caught the world's eye. The problem is therefor not that people are being prejudice against these countries, but rather that too few people have seen their good stuff.
If you know of great professional lists from/of these regions please make the people running TSP aware of these so the list can grow.
@Knuggi - Not to say they still don't make great sci-fi's, but I can't think of a single one made after the 70's that's better than this masterpiece, and it's certainly on my shortlist for best sci-fi of all time.
@zbrg1 - There are several good ones, though very few I find great. Granted I hate several supposedly good ones. Many of them are simply so silly, thin and badly made. People just didn't respect the horror genre in this era. Not sure why that should stop me from searching though. Besides, the majority of the acclaimed/populat ones are at least decent.
@dAJaro - Silent cinema, and classic cinema in general is hardly represented on this site at all. Yes, the same goes for ducumentaries, even more so in fact, but that still doesn't remove the need for these films.
It's moronic presentation of the court of law is just plain laughable. From the very opening scene which features some of the most below the the belt racist humor ever captured on screen, to it's almost pathetic attempts at wittiness this movie fails again and again. As it gets a long we do get some good parts and Will Rogers is charming, but that's hardly enough to save it. Out of the 30 John Ford films I've seen this is by far the weakest!
At firtst it was oddly hypnotic, but in the end it was just annoying. Give me the worst video camera in the world and I could make a better movie right now.
Less than I expected, but at least it tried to be out of the box. In no way a great film, but certainly a good one. Had expected far more from Mottola though. His first two films were great.
I'm not totally against this idea, but as far as I know there's only been one spammer. This person obviously sent the same message to numerous users, but I'd hardly call it an epidemic. From what I've gathered he/she has gone down the top list and sent a message to all the top members(maybe they have gotten lower now). So, with only one spam mail in my inbox I hardly see the problem. I'd much rather be able to get various questions from stranger's and being able to ask them questions back.
@TheMadcapLaughs: I strongly disagree! If there was possible to not count lost films sure! But just because nobody has seen a lot of pre-00's Korean films doesn't mean that they should be awarded for it. True many of them lacks subs, etc. but so what? The list is the list and I think we should respect it.
Being able to rename the list categories(and perhaps create extra categories) and choose what category the individual lists would be on. This would also make it possible to add personal lists to said categories.
@sortile9io : The personal lists would in no way contaminate the "serious" lists, and would be held seperately, unless individual users wanted it otherwise. We can already remove lists we aren't interested in.
@Jumping Elephant: The function would mean that shorts and TV-shows wouldn't affect your movie ranking. If every check was "official" people could just watch 1000's of 1-5 minute shorts and be No. 1 in no time.
The list would seperate between full lenght movies (which would get one top user list), Shorts(which would get one top user list), Series(which would get one top user list), etc.
@Jumping Elephant: I'm one of those last people, so I obviously couldn't disagree more with you. I see no reason why on earth films on lists should count while those who aren't doesn't. The sites tagline is "How many movies have you seen". I see no reason to be so elite. Of course elite can be fun, but why not encourage all movie watching instead.
@LordKinbote - I don't see why. They would not be added to the usual categories (though perhaps individual users could have this function). Of course this would only be if all checks were official.
One idea:
What about seperating Movies, Shorts, TV-Series and TV-episodes and have different rankings for all of them?

I'm suprised the troll hasn't come back seeing how people has thrown so much food around :DAnyways: This was a really charming movie. Quite moving and certainly great. Yet to see a weak movie from Iran - but then I haven't seen too much.

@Fitz of Fury: I think you must have lost a lot of the discussion."I don't like the idea of including all checks in over-all ranking. It would seem to get really messy with the shorts and TV Series episodes."
Shorts and TV-series would have different rankings!
"What's to stop someone from creating a list with all the movies they've seen and making it official? "
That wouldn't matter as all checks already count(though not in the Official List ranking)
"I did like the featured user list idea, but not for a fee. It's not the Catholic church-you can't buy your way to the homepage! "
This is about finding ways to give ICM some money in the bank.
