This was my mom's favorite Christmas show; me... Not so much. But she used to make us watch it every year. The little drummer boy's face actually kind of gave me the creeps!
I remember this animated movie from when I was a child. As a child, Mr Magoo was not a favorite figure for me. However, in seeing this again as an adult, I am surprised at its faithfulness to the Christmas Carol story and the simple beauty of the songs. The animation is dated (no CGI or Pixar tricks here!) but that's also the beauty of the magic of this film. I reccomend it for kids and adults.
Lots of attempts at drama that just don't seem to go over well. Hedy Lamar is her usual aloof gorgeous self but it doesn't serve her "mystery" much. So many great actors, so little great movie.
Plot? What plot? Who needs a plot when you've got gorgeous gowns, impeccable tuxedoes, Fred and Ginger's dancing, remarkably stylish sets, and music to set your heart a flutter?
A woman's vanity. A woman's devotion. A husband's internal eye. A love that lasts a lifetime and beyond. Marriage takes constant work. What a wonderful movie!
Surprisingly, a very engrossing movie capturing my attention and keeping me interested. The cinematography is wonderful given when it was made. I wouldn't really call it a horror movie as much as a psychological thriller. Very well done.
I was surprised at how bad Garbo danced! I can't believe the director wanted her to look so stiff and uncoordinated. I have to believe that particular style of dancing was very foreign to Garbo and so she felt -and looked - awkward. Either way, the fact that all the men in the picture gush over her dancing made the whole scene unbelievable to me. Still, it's Garbo...the rest of the movie is typical Garbo gorgeousness!
