"I had discovered a new phase, somewhere between the drool phase and a state of unconsciousness. It was the…what was it? I needed a name for this phase. It was the cerebral palsy phase!"
I am not sure if the entire film survives. Here is a description: This film, about the Sultan’s visit to Thessalonika, consists of a number of dramatic, tight sequences: (a) the arrival of the Sultan in the port of Thessalonika; (b) his walk through the streets of Thessalonika, with many processions and parades; (c) the Sultan’s departure from Thessalonika by train, and his trip to Bitola. These last sequences were shot from the train in motion. The Manakis thus managed to film landscapes, and the railway stations passed through by the Sultan and his entourage.
Reading the description, it states that the original film was 5:25 minutes but this short clip is all that was preserved and survives today.
Here is a description from another page:
This is the only film material discovered and preserved that was developed by the Manaki Brothers themselves and composed as a documentary whole for public exhibition. The film records the funeral ceremony of the Metropolitan Aimilianos of Grevena, who was murdered on 1 October 1911. It begins with a panorama of the town of Grevena and a photograph of two deceased persons (one of whom is Aimilianos). The next shot is the funeral, which begins in the church of Grevena. Here the Manaki Brothers used a photograph of the church’s interior and the deceased Metropolitan, because they were not allowed to shoot inside the church. The ceremony continues with the Metropolitan being carried out of the church, shot in full figure at a normal angle. The Manaki Brothers follow the procession on its way to Grevena Cemetery, alternating normal and high-angle shots, filming in medium long shot. All the while the Metropolitan’s body is transported in a seated position. The film ends with the burial of Aimilianos.
It is listed under also known as: Panorama du Grand Canal vu d un Bateau, http://www.icheckmovies.com/movies/panorama+du+grand+canal+pris+dun+bateau/, at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1zjJkfHxGY
Tight, tense drama with just the right amount of comedy sprinkled. At times you definitely think Scorsese could have directed this film. Great performances by Bale, Adams and especially Lawrence. Also perfect wardrobe and soundtrack. Plucked straight into the 70's, yet still feels fresh.
In 1930 this was the first documentary related to education in Chile, which shows the academic and social activities of students and teachers of the Lyceum Valentin Letelier located in the district of Recoleta. It showcases biology classes, physical education to include boxing, laboratory work, instrumental band rehearsals, etc. This documentary was commissioned by the government of Carlos Ibañez del Campo . It lasts just over 10 minutes and currently this national film heritage site by the Ministry of Education of Chile and is considered historical material by the national council for culture and the arts.
The film begins with a view of Guayaquil and Quito in 1920. This fictional western tells the story of a Texan who returns to Lares after a long absence. He becomes involved with the daughter of a landowner and with a prostitute, in a relationship of love and jealousy. This environment develops and leads to fights between men who are vying for both power and women.
The film was solid with quality supporting performances. It wasn't perfect...definitely suffered from several cliches and at times flawed writing. However, Denzel easily gave one of the most powerful acting performances of the 21st Century and also his personal best since Malcolm X.
