I'm a bit surprised to see the choice of centering the movie around Miyagi, personally I was never really into this character, but the match itself probably got the best adaptation fans could have hoped for.
If you're a fan of basketball and don't know Slam Dunk yet, read the manga before watching this movie, it's not very long (compared to today's standards) and it's worth it.
A successful adaptation, although the desire to avoid being rated R was definitely a problem, as the manga is darker than this, in particular the bad guy called "Grieshka" in the movie, which is supposed to be far more terrifying than this random dude which just looks like your standard back-alley scoundrel.
Even on its own the movie holds, although I suspect that for people who don't already love the manga it might not really make that strong of an impression, aside from the visuals which are objectively incredible. But the "americanized teen-aged" side of it might make it a bit too generic in the minds of people.
We'll see, I hope it finds success so that we can have the sequels.
Yeah, thanks but no thanks, there's no way I'm voting this way. If you want votes I suggest that you put up a web interface for that next time. Good luck nonetheless.
Disappointed. I wanted to see this movie because I thought the square would be taken by people and experimented with. Instead we're just shown what's outside of the square, which is far less interesting to me. I can't say it's a bad movie, but I probably would have appreciated it more if there was no square to begin with.
Although the ending is accurate, I don't think it made it exciting enough for a movie, but at the same time, that's often what you find once you really investigate supernatural claims: boring stuff. But a movie is supposed to be able to make use excited, even about boring stuff. So yeah, not very impressed.
Also, again (and again and again) the cliche of "keeping an open mind" meaning "believing in supernatural forces without any good reason to do so", ugh, please stop this nonsense already.
The movie would have been at least a bit interesting if there was a reason to care about the characters. Honestly, from start to finish, if they had both died I would just have shrugged. And no, their love for each other is just as boring, why would you care about two people falling in love if you don't at least care for one of them? Boring. Good intentions, bad shape.
Well there are a few technical issues with that movie, mainly in editing, but sometimes in animation too. But these could have easily been overcome given the decent graphics and great authenticity.
Unfortunately, the whole "roll of the dice" thingy just spoiled everything there was to watch for me. I have never seen such stupidity from any character, in any movie, ever.
I think this qualifies as the biggest mistake in a scenario I have ever seen.
