This is apparently a lost animated pornographic film. It would be interesting to find out how the two people who checked it managed to see it.

Book of Sand

Not as painful to sit through as I had been prepared for. Those interested in the development of left-wing film, or in 20th-century Latin American history, will find enough to hold their attention, although that attention might start to flag during the second half of the four-hour running time. Most others will probably find it tough going from the start.

Thinly veiled anti-Semitism? I must have seen a different movie.

Perhaps it could be used as an avant-garde substitute for Two Girls, One Cup.

Don't worry about the Japanese only; it's silent with no intertitles. It does help to read a bit about it before you watch it though to clarify the plot. Here, for example: http://www.midnighteye.com/features/silentfilm_pt1.shtml

I realize that comedy doesn't always translate well, but Soviets must have been pretty hard up for a laugh to make this neo-slapstick mess a national favorite.

Book of Sand

Wonderfully entertaining movie with surprisingly good chemistry between Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich. Witty script almost makes it a screwball comedy-western.

Cameron's usual schlock and awe and cardboard cut-out characters, although this time wrapped up in an exceptionally pretty package.
