So finally it's revealed what that long hug with Judd was about.
This documentary is a must watch to snooker fans. Quite a deep insight into the mind of the greatest of all time.
So that's what that end sentence means. Luckily I had forgotten it as it would've spoiled the ending.
Great film. Colman is simply superb in everything he did
Hit and miss. A great cast and a beautiful setting being let down by avant-garde editing and cinematography. Was to the western genre what the Altamont Festival was to the hippie movement.
I love it when films do a mid-180 like this. Don't see it very often and when executed successfully, it can provide a truly surprising watch. Something that is really lacking in cinema these days.
The trifecta of music, the performance of Burl Ives and the stunning cinematography will make me remember this movie for a long time. Rarely does a film grab a hold of you like this. They don't make them like this anymore.
Definitely still prefer the 1948 one which is one of my favorite noirs but this one still had its moments. Not sure I liked the very end, even though it was unexpected I suppose.
Will Patton definitely shone as the villain. I've always liked him but he was something special in this one.
The screenplay and dialogue were great as were the two leads. What a joy to watch the sparring match between the two biggest losers in the Oscars history. Burton can entice you with almost every word he utters. His diction, pacing and charisma is among the all time greats. And O'Toole can switch gears so effortlessly. At one moment he will lure you in with a dramatic monologue or self reflection just to make you laugh hysterically mere seconds later. Loved almost everything about this film.
What an excellent little film. Screenplay was tight as, every little mannerism and quirk was on point. The dialogue was realistic and enjoyable. Turn of the century LA really is a source for atmospheric crime dramas.
Kind of a waste. There was a story buried somewhere but it took way longer to evolve than it should have. The escapades should have started earlier than the hour mark and the ramp up should have started earlier than in the last 10 minutes.
Oftentimes felt like a Woody Allen romp without the spicy dialogue.
I enjoyed it, felt too promotional at times but the sets were something to marvel at and you had some funny characters for distraction. Definitely not as bad as it's blamed of being. It's not the films fault for coming out at the same year than Singin' in the Rain!
Had so much more potential than it ended up to be. Needed at least 40 or so more minutes to draw out the chapters. Felt very rushed at times even though there were scenes that were top notch, mainly the Titanic one and the 1918 stuff.
Overall still very hurried, possibly due to an already bloated budget and filming issues. Would like to see a proper remake of this with a good director. The story is there.
Tough to watch at times, kinda enjoyed the performance by the two leading actors/actresses. Otherwise really dated. The titular character is virtually non existent in this film too
Mind blown, I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. So very captivating with all the intense and dynamic battle scenes. And the characters were truly three dimensional, David was a true MVP!
A Life Less Ordinary meets The Truman Show meets Dark City. Enjoyable but I agree with some of the others here that it kinda fizzled out near the end and could've wandered down a more risk-taking path
