Convoluted and flawed. Completely disregards the core of what made the original Death Note so interesting. This was just uninspired and disappointing. Such a shame.
Added to the likes of Dragonball Evolution -- another western adaption that didn't need to be made.
I'm convinced this entire film was made just for that final line at the end. Once he said it, my jaw hit the floor. Brilliant. I live for moments like those.
I was stunned into silence for ten minutes after the film ended. Honestly, one of the best I've ever seen. The plot had me guessing all the way through, and the twist was so brutal. Absolute genius cinema. I could praise Oldboy for days!
It was like watching an intricate web of lies slowly untangle into a mind-blowing yet satisfying conclusion.
Even from the very beginning, you could practically feel the intense attraction between the two female leads. The direction and the actresses were perfect.
Chan Wook Park never fails to deliver that element of surprise on point. So much respect!
This movie is brutal in its honesty, and the acting pulls it off so well.
The best scene has to be the poor bloke with AIDs who only wanted to be touched. It shows the reality of sexually transmitted diseases if you're not too careful. Really made me reflect.
Stunning. The raw emotion is shown through beautifully crafted artwork, the mythology wrapped around the themes so perfectly, and the characters were well-rounded enough to be believable and endearing.
Gorgeous reflection of grief and closure. Needs wayyy more recognition!
Wow. I knew this was for me 5 minutes in when the main character was playing GameBoy and watching Dragon Ball Z on his bulky TV. Just wow.
I'm 22, grew up in the 90s and 2000s so this really... REALLY hit home on so many levels. I've never felt like I could relate to a movie so much, and this hits everything just right. We truly are defined by the relationships we build and break, the struggles and the milestones we make. And in the end, no one really has anything figured out.
But it's okay because that's the beauty of life. Let the moment seize us. Beautiful film.
It was great to see Frieza again! Although I'm not crazy about the Super Saiyan God concept or the new transformations, the banter and the fight scenes between him and Goku were amazing. It honestly felt like I was a kid watching the Frieza saga all over again!
I only wish they had prolonged the fight scenes and made the interaction between Frieza, Goku and Vegeta longer. I mean, compared to how long the Goku and Frieza fight was in the anime, the fight in this movie felt as if it couldn't cover a fraction of it!
Even so, I definitely enjoyed it. Vegeta's fight with Frieza was so badass, Frieza's personality is the same as ever, and the animation around the fight scenes was definitely satisfying. If you love Dragon Ball Z, then you'll like this movie!
I understand that this was an underlying commentary about reality TV culture, but this mindset is very American. I had a very hard time understanding any of the characters and their reactions to the situation. It seemed too controlled.
It was too unrealistic in the fact that a large group of people in a life-or-death situation all came to indefinite conclusions without protest. Some decisions were debated, but others were agreed on too quickly. It was almost disturbing.
Like in the first ten minutes, I was mortified when everyone was simultaneously okay with killing off the elderly, as if their lives didn't matter because they were old... and EVERYONE was okay with that.
But this is all my opinion. I'm not into watching reality TV shows, and I'm incredibly opposed to it. So maybe this film doesn't resonate with me because I already know that reality TV is bad. Not to say I'm opposed to cinema exposing these themes in a bleak way, I mean I absolutely love Black Mirror's rendition of X Factor... but this film tried too hard to hammer the message in. The characters made convincing arguments, but they made fake performances.
You can thank the poor amazing artists behind the film for the stunning visuals and CGI who were cruelly unpaid, ultimately bankrupt and stripped of their jobs upon its release.
It's disgusting. This film is utter trash regarding how they treated the very people who created this masterpiece of art. Not worth the praise it receives, absolutely wretched.
I fell in love with Leonardo DiCaprio because of this film. The introduction to Romeo scene thanks to the Radiohead soundtrack gives me shivers every time.
Also I don't recommend watching this while stoned. I was confused throughout the film on why I couldn't understand them even though they were speaking English. Pretty surreal experience.
