Definitely worth the watch. This tongue in cheek 80s action comedy is totally worthy of its cult status. Is it weird? Yes. Does it take itself too seriously? There's a character called John Bigboote (Big-boo-tay!), you tell me. Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd, Clancy Brown, Ellen Barkin.
Dont take it too seriously and have fun with it. Thats what movies are for.
The best of the Ernest films. It shaped my childhood and began my love of the horror comedy genre. Jim Varney is at the top of his game in this film, and has countless great one liners. Eartha Kitt makes a memorable appearance as Old Lady Hackmore, Briarville's resident crazy and know-all of things macabre.
The first showdown of Ernest and Trantor the Troll is probably one of my favorite film scenes of all time. "How 'bout a bumper sandwich, booger lips?"
Fantastic film with stunning visuals, yet a simple setup. The brooding tension had me on edge for the entirety of the film. Unlike most modern horror films, it doesn't so much as rely on jump scares, but tension. I found myself expecting something horrifying to happen almost every second of the film. The general atmosphere reminded me of Ti West's House of the Devil.
Great movie! I love horror comedies, but I mainly watched it because it was directed by James Roday of Psych. I loved it! It's definitely taking a place in my horror comedy collection.
I liked it. I know the reason most people are turned off by this film. It's the relationship between Dickens and Jeliza-Rose, which I agree is very creepy. But it's two childish minds trying to coexist in their own messed up world. I could have done without the "cutie" bits, but I'm glad I'm stuck with the film until the end.

Not Joe Dante's best work, but it is far from a bad movie. Funny, fun, and enjoyable.Movie comment on Tideland
