How is this movie in 0 official lists?
If you think this movie is over the top, I can assure you, it isn't. The family is an algamation of my girlfriend's and my family. These people do exist in some way in this world and at the heart of the story is childhood trauma and the resulting disconnect. To people who haven't experienced a childhood like this it might seem dreamlike and metaphorical, but this is real. July just finds a way to translate the absurdity of this type of people onto the screen in a way that is magical and whimsical because the reality of the type of abuse Old Dolio experiences is too painful to look at any other way.
And the love story is a testament to the fact that in our partners we seek what we've been missing. I absoultely love this movie and will forever place it in my top 5 films of all time.

I can see how some people can enjoy this movie. On the surface it is fun and there are some nice scenes, but overall this is not well shot and feels cobbled together. I love all the female actors in this, big fan, and they are doing their best, but even they can't carry this meaningless story, it feels contrived and lackluster. I didn't regret watching it but I was more than a bit disappointed. The use of music was really bad. Too loud, too cheap, too in your face. On more than one occasion the lense transports too much of the male gaze and some scenes are a bit sexist - more out of not knowing any better than ill will. But: We're not in the 90ies anymore. We can do better.

Drive Away Dolls is like a watered down version of the Big Lebowski. Like someone said "why don't you do something with women this time? I'll give you three days to write the script and shoot the movie!" And I am saying this as a lesbian. I should have enjoyed this quite alot more...

One of the best films of the year 2023 imho. Amazing cast, wonderfully shot, all around perfect. I wouldn't have changed a single thing. One of my favourite biopics of all time.

For people wo can't relate to Nyad: You don't have to like her. Just watch this 3-dimensional woman accomplish an amazing feat while being flawed and driven by trauma and having a great friend, because why not. This is as real as a movie can get.

It's not a great "film" but it's a great watch! Smart, funny, emotionally mature, absurd. Great use of Holland Taylor. If it had been executed better, this would be one of my top comedies ever.

Beautiful little movie, reminiscent of 90ies independent cinema. Unpretentious, funny and a lttle bit absurd, quite earnest with a lovely dryness. I enjoyed it a lot.

I love how this movie doesn’t have to spell everything out. They trust us to get it and we do.
The only unrealistic thing was the dirt in her apartment. It should have been crustier ;)
Great great great film, great acting. Might actually be among my top 100 films of all times. Definitely top 200.

Surprisingly ok for a cheap and cheesy Christmas film. I didn't have a Bad time and only skipped a couple of minutes.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed- mainly because I expected too much because I think the world of Tomboy. That being said: This is not a bad movie, not at all. But it is not a masterpiece either. It is beautiful and it is artful, but it doesn’t convey the genius idea that stands behind its creation. (The interviews with Sciamma and the cast are great, I highly recommend watching some.)
Then again, if you really want to be the talk of the town at festivals, your film needs to be a bit pretentious. For me, luckily, the pretentiousness isn’t annoying enough to spoil the film for me. I still enjoyed it and will eventually watch it again. I just feel they overthought everything a little bit. So 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

What does this film want to tell us? Immigration is kinda sh*t, especially when you're a woman, but when you're white there's always a way? I just couldn't connect to the characters. Everything just felt bland.

This is three movies in one. Two of them would have been interesting if shot separately. There were a few great and/or funny moments. The rest was just bland. I like JLo and some of her movies are great (like Enough and Out of Sight) and she's solid as usual (she is underrated) but this is false advertisement. It's much less of a comedy than expected and sooooo predictable. Not in a good and comforting way but just too plain. And please stop actors from going in the sun with sunglasses. All the makeup in the world can't cover it up. Neither in women nor in men.

Starts off very weak but then finds its pace and draws you in. I liked it.

Great fun and much better comedic acting than in most other Marvel films.

What a beautiful little film. Quirky and cute while at the same time feeling very sincere. One of the lighter lesbian films that we definitely need sometimes :)

If you are a lesbian you will get everything and you will laugh and laugh while the cheescake is coming towards you and then going away again.
I wonder what the ratio of lesbians with Asperger's is. I think the film and I agree it might be disproportionately high ;)

This movie is nothing special if you have watched other lesbian coming of age stories. But it is one of the much needed additions to the pool so young ones don't have to watch the same old stuff over and over again :) Also, it is well made, beautifully shot and the actors are good too.

What a wonderful film, hands down one of my all-time favorites. Maybe men can't appreciate it as much as women can. After all, it is a very gender-specific struggle and I don't think men are too hung up on the jobs they can't do or aren't expected to do because they aren't women. And they wouldn't know what it's like to constantly be told your voice is annoying (not mine, just women in general;).

Extremely funny, dry humor, great skript, great acting, great energy.
LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!

Awful. Chelsea Handler was the only good thing in this. Looked like a TV movie.

@groveremote this movie was made at a time, when we didn't have same sex romance on screen without suicide. This film was needed as much then as it is now. It is a great romantic film and it doesn't need to be more than it is - because it means everything. And on top of it it is so well-executed (like you said) despite being a self-funded indie. Great actors as well.

Lolita Crappy Cudgel more like it. Nah, it wasn't THAT bad, it was just nothing really. Every single plot turn was expectable, the dialogue was straight from daytime TV, the action nothing new.
I don't know the manga, so there was nothing to relate to for me. NOTHING.

Apparently commercially successful films about gay people can't exist without referencing the history of art ostensibly. Other than that, the movie was fine, like going on a summer vacation. Not that special though, I don't understand the hype. I guess, it's heterosexuals getting their minds blown by watching a gay themed movie for the first time. Noobs.

This film has 3rd to 8th act problems but themewise it's definitely a step up from the previous one (which was devoid of all meaning, if you ask me). So maybe Episode IX can actually be a good movie. We'll see...
