What a horrible movie! I think the idea of the minimoy world would've been great if literally anyone else had made it. Even a first year animation student could've done better. The storytelling was paced horribly, written horribly, the acting was stale and overdone, and the mouth movements didn't even match up to what was being said (day one of studying animation in any art school...this is BASIC). The only relief in this movie was the brief appearance of David Bowie.
People keep bashing this movie but the only issue I really had with it was that it was overambitious for a film that might've gotten a lower budget. But it's better it's overambitious than underambitious. Great movie, worth the watch, a lot of wonderful stories going on that are left to assumptions that I wish were drawn out into two films, or a much longer film. Either way I loved it.
I watched this yesterday with my roommate (who's only lived here in California/the US for 3 years...just enough to get most of the jokes, but not all of them) and we couldn't stop laughing! This film is older than either of us but all of it still holds true - from the easiest to tease suspects of about how we feel about earthquakes and every aspect of driving, to "californian cuisine" and plastic surgery jokes (I had to explain to my roommate that no, everyone doesn't just look great all the time, plastic surgery has just gotten really good here and nose jobs and eyelid surgeries are a right of passage for most, we can spot botox and facelifts when out-of-staters can't). This film is timeless.

I thought this was a film about Banksy; it's not, it's a film about a phony. Last few statements by Shepard Fairey and Banksy are really spot on.
