Lovely adaptation of the Dumas’ classic by the French in French. Director Martin Bourboulon displays an old school approach with shooting all action and stunts in camera and real places with no obvious digital trickery added in post production. This brings so much freshness and gravitas to the film. Vincent Cassel, Eva Green, Louis Garrel and all others excel in their respected roles but it’s François Civil as D’Artagnan that carries it all with his charisma and naturalness. Beautifully lit and scored. One for the historical adventure aficionados.
This had enough ingredients to be a charming one. A virtuoso director with some cult movies under his belt, a great story based on an exceptional book, a duo of a legendary DoP and a production designer, plus a good composer. But, despite its atmosphere it's flat. Such a pity.
One to place in the midnight movies basket. Three charismatic leads, a lovely accompanying soundtrack and atmosphere in spades. Gorgeous to look at and listen to. The editing is questionable. Despite Scott managed to make slicker movies, this one is more interesting than most of his commercial successes.
Ron Howard with father & son Kasdans have delivered a true gem. It's got a fine balance between grittiness and fun á la Empire Strikes Back. None of the movies since Return of the Jedi has that vibe as successful as this one. Acting, writing, characters, set pieces, production are all spot on; backstory elements are intelligently woven - except a cameo at the end. Glad that Harrison Ford is thrilled with the result unlike Mark Hamill with the Last Jedi. Hope time will favor its status.

One of the bleakest of them all. You almost feel sorry for each character in this movie.I simply adore it. How can't I? I'm in it!..

-Nobody. One side is just losing slower than the other.
