A messy documentary, that I'm not entirely sure really ever knew what point it was trying to make.
The only strong element was the story focusing on Humza. I wonder if the director maybe regretted not solely focusing on his story. But even then, a doc centred on him would be fairly slight and would gradually become less entertaining as it went on (like it did in this doc).
As a result, it had to be given an overarching theme and padded out with two MUCH lesser, very plain stories which just jolted you out of the Humza arch everytime it switched back to them.
Offered very little in terms of shining a light on social media if you've already been made aware of the potential negative aspects of the medium through other means.
Surprised to see so many positive comments on here if I'm honest.
Started off strong and then seemed to lose its way entirely when the werewolf element started taking more of a central role. By the end of the movie, I was actually entirely uninterested in what was even happening and how the main character was even gonna end up.
Also features some of the worst CGI I've seen in a modern movie. Which is unfortunate considering the majority of the latter half of the movie requires it. (The actual werewolf CGI was okay though to be honest.)
Really pleasantly surprised by this. Went in expecting it to be a cheesy horror movie, actually really well made, enjoyed it.
Some of the characters were a bit badly written but it focused on a group of teens in a horror movie so I didn't really expect anything less.
I really liked how the shoes became the identifier for the killer and how that was set up from the start. Really liked the ending too, surprised me. Good that it never revealed them too, would've ruined it if they had.
By far the best looking animation I've ever seen. In fact, maybe one of the best looking movies I've ever seen. And the plot and voice work was fantastic too just to top it off. Looking forward to seeing future Cartoon Saloon films.
The last 35 minutes totally lost it for me, unfortunately. Up until that point, it was an amazing film but it all seemed to fall apart at the end, I thought.
The intro is a thing of beauty, one of the best openings to a film I've seen in a long time and the score is absolutely incredible. Fantastic performances from the two dogs that play Hagen too. Animal acting full stop never fails to astound me but especially when it's as good as it is in this film.
This was a really tough watch. Definitely shouldn't have watched it right before bed.
It had the ability to be really great considering the horrible, harrowing true events that it was based on but it ended up only being good, in my opinion. It was a bit messy at times and there were a few little plot holes. I mean, what the hell was Benedict Cumberbatch there for other than to boost the star names? He completely disappeared after his two short scenes.
However, 'good' it might only have been but 'good' is alot better than what I was expecting so all in all, pleasantly surprised and definitely worth a watch just to bring attention to the horrible issues it portrays.
Actually a really good documentary. Rather than being a standard music doc about the making of 30STM's album, a band I'm not really much of a fan of, it focuses mostly on their long and arduous battle with their record label EMI and shines a light on how hard it is to work as a band when you're under the rule of a major label. Didn't expect much from this but really enjoyed it.
Pretty much a complete rip-off of Pusher even down to the title sequence and poster design. But hey, quite a good rip-off. In fact, I enjoyed it more if I'm honest.
Apart from reading an article in Empire about it once just before release, I didn't hear anything about this movie until I started seeing it in the DVD section of supermarkets. I presumed it'd gone straight-to-DVD and was a terrible film.
What a fantastic and unexpected shock! Absolutely incredible movie from start to finish, deserves way, way more attention than it sadly received and McAvoy's performance was off the scale, seriously impressive actor. In terms of notoriety, it's obviously no where near Trainspotting but, I'm part of a very, very small minority who isn't really that into that movie so I'd watch this over it any day. And I'll probably go out and buy the book now too.
I wasn't keen on the Robbie/Jessica storyline but the rest of the movie was actually pretty good, I liked it. The plot twist was quite good and both Ryan Gosling's and Emma Stone's performances were a highlight for me.
Well, I have to say I truly liked it. Had a superb mix of comedy and romance but not in a cliche, cheesy way like with most American romantic comedy type films. Loved the fact it was British, found it much more relatable because of that. Much better than the short which didn't really make a whole lot of sense compared to this.
Only bit I didn't particular like was the freezing time sections. I couldn't understand whether he's really freezing time or whether it's just a metaphor for him being in a really focused state. If it's the former, it ruined the film really, took all the reality out of it. Quite an interesting portrayal if it's the latter though.
Definitely wasn't as soppy or unbearable to watch as I expected it to be, did actually get me chuckling a bit towards the end surprisingly but I wouldn't say it deserves to be on the Top 250 at all.
I didn't think the acting for alot of the characters was very good and it wasn't really anything special. I absolutely hated the small guy in the group of three near the beginning too, what a horribly annoying character.
I thought it was a very original story and a really well-made film. I loved the documentary style of the film and how it was shot. And although some people hated the political aspects of the film, I thought they were really good, in my opinion. I'd never thought of it in the sense of apartheid like somebody mentioned below, I was seeing it more as a metaphor for the Iraq War with media cover-ups and the search for the ultimate weapons and other very familiar themes. Even so far as a brief mention of conspiracy theories, which shoot around any time the government does anything nowadays.
Wow is all I can say. Not in a good way though.
I agree with the comment below me, it certainly did have a strong effect on me. And I'm used to horrible films.
The movie itself, I thought, started out as a generic person being chased round their house horror film, I thought the plot was unoriginal and there was no real substance to it. I didn't really, even a bit more than halfway through the film, see where it was gonna go. I was bored to be honest.
Then the final section blew things into the extreme. One of the most disturbing pieces of cinema I've seen personally. The plot twist was unexpected but not exactly original again and like someone below said, there were a few cliches of horror used too. Although disturbing and very disgusting, it still didn't really make it anymore of a better film.
I also thought the dialogue was terribly written too but maybe that was because of the rather bland and dull way the actors who dubbed over the film in English were acting.
Not a big fan of the first half of the movie but after watching the second half, actually turns out I preferred the first half.
Shame really, love Kubrick but quite disappointed by this :(
Very pleased that many other comments share my view on this movie. The people I watched it with raved about it, saying how good it was. I was shocked at just how bad I found it.
It's not that bad a concept, it just didn't live up to it in any way. Fairly bad acting, fairly badly written, even Samuel L Jackson's part wasn't that good (although I'd put that down to how the part was written, not necessarily Jackson himself).
Really not a good movie and I was glad it was under an hour and a half. Wouldn't have been able to suffer any longer.
I wasn't hugely impressed with it. Not read the book so couldn't base my opinion against that but have watched 'Battle Royale' which has a very similar concept/plot. I thought BR much, much more entertaining and gripping and I found the concept alot stronger and more interesting too.
Now by no means was this a bad film, I enjoyed it, it was just lacking based on the hype surrounding it.
I also felt a few things were very loose aswell. Things kept happening that were never elaborated on. I don't know if you'd have to have read the book for them to make sense but if that is the case, that's a terrible thing to have done as many won't have read the book.
Good movie, I enjoyed it and I do like the concept, it's not a movie I need to see again though. I would be very interested to watch it's sequel though as it was a good strong start to a trilogy.
Wow, pretty amazing movie in my opinion. Didn't expect much from it but it sure delivered. Fairly hard to follow at bits but I think I got it towards the end. Very interesting watch.
Really good movie, was a very interesting watch. Was really enjoying it up until the twist ending though, thought that was a weird concept but I still found it a really interesting movie.
Nothing fantastic in my eyes. It's hardly an original movie and it didn't have anything that pulled me into it. I was just glad it was only 100 minutes long so it wasn't a huge amount of time to watch it. Any longer and I'd have been very bored with it.
I've heard alot about it so decided to give it a shot and I liked it. Not a romantic movie kind of person but I found it very relatable and realistic and really quite liked it.
Nice to see a romantic film that doesn't end with the usual cliché ending of them both ending up getting back together and living "happily ever after" together too.
I don't know if I've heard so much about the movie and it's characters that you pretty much know the movie even before you've watched it but I figured the plot twist pretty much as early as was possible.
