Couldn't disagree more with Cazwegian. The 1960 original is aimless, completely lacking in character development, takes forever to go anywhere, and doesn't have an ounce of cleverness to it. The remake is vastly superior on every level, starting with the exceptionally more focused screenplay as well as the tight direction from Steven Soderbergh. I know film is generally a subjective thing, but I don't think I could take anyone seriously who actually thinks this version is better than its remake.
...Serpico doesn't even remotely try to be The French Connection. Other than the fact that they're gritty cop dramas, they couldn't be any more different in what they aim to achieve. An absurd comparison.
Both superb movies for entirely different reasons.
The movie was kind of so-so until Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll become a duo at odds. Their onscreen chemistry really carried the movie to being above average, and I wish her role had a stronger presence earlier on in the film because it could have very well been a Hitch classic as a result. Missed the mark a little, but the strong second half will leave a favorable impression in the long run.

Cloud Atlas was a self-indulgent, painfully way-too-long piece of shit.Bound, on the other hand, was awesome.

Didn't go in expecting art. It just simply wasn't funny. Terrible movie and one of the worst from last year.
