Loretta Young won an Oscar for her performance here. She was wonderful but the real performance in this film belongs to the great Ethel Barrymore!

Not nearly as bad as some people believe. Great movie for it's time!! I wasn't bored. That being said, this was a movie the would have been wonderful as a 4 hour epic. The characters would have been fleshed out more. You can also see a lot of "Upstairs, Downstairs" in it. I'm willing to bet Jean Marsh (creator of Upstairs, Downstairs) was influenced by this film.

Fascinating study of loneliness and the need to connect.

Owen Wilson's nose is too distracting. The screenplay is golden and the direction fluid. However, the star of this movie is PARIS!! Just lovely!

Not half as bad as people seem to think. Not all movies can be "Citizen Kane". Some are just loud and shiny. Nothing wrong with that.

Merman ran away with this movie. Which surprised me as I never really considered her a great actress.
