Hey, everyone. About a year ago I posted a comment/question that actually got a very interesting discussion going for a bit. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember where I had left the comment and didn't know how to find out, so I forgot about it. Now I have found it and am really happy people were interested enough to discuss it, even those who didn't understand my personal take on the issue. So anyway, thanks everyone!!

This is a beautiful movie. Doesn't quite cover the whole book, but the acting, design and camera work are all impeccable. Ever notice how big Olivier was? He's so good he can play someone small and look small doing it, but in this he looks enormous!

I think it's truly hilarious.

I love this movie. It's one of those that moves me for reasons I really don't understand. A really beautiful movie, and my favorite Renoir (so far--only seen a handful).

Lots of fun. Garfield is so good. What a way to make a start in movies!

I really liked it. It seemed pretty up front about things for its time. Donat is always good.

By far the best, I concur.

Just added it to my Netflix cue. Thanks for the heads up! I'd never even heard of it, and I love Bogarde.

Meaning, btw, that you get a real Gable movie and a real MacDonald movie all in one.

I'm the only favorite? What's wrong with you people? Just kidding. I guess Gable and Jeanette MacDonald together in one movie is more fun for me than others.

Hardly great, but much better than it should be, I thought. Shearer doesn't embarrass herself too much.

See this one. It's much better than its lack of fame would lead you to believe.

This is another obscure old film that's better than many of the major classics. Highly recommended.

This is the most awkward and bizarre major Hollywood film of its day. You can see what they were getting at, but the actors didn't know how to do it. The only time de Havilland was terrible, and you'll want to kill Mickey Rooney, even if he was only seven or something.

Yeah, I don't know why this movie is so obscure. It's really pretty good.

Really fun. I wish they still knew how to make these.

Wow! One check! Anyone who finds this movie, please let me know where or when if it's on TV. Thanks!

I agree with everything said before me. This is one of those movies that put you in a great mood. Exactly what is meant by a "classic".

This was surprisingly entertaining. Lots of authentic-looking period detail, for those who are into that sort of thing.

It's terrible. Saw it on VHS years ago. Fox Movie Channel shows it a lot.

This is a great, sadly forgotten movie. Highly recommended (for those who like early American talkies).

Yes, terrible. Cavalcade might be worse, though.
