I finally figured out what bothered me about this movie & Mr Hulot’s vacation.
I don’t find bungling oafs funny. I find them annoying. Johnny English, Get Smart (tv show and movie), Mr Bean (tv show and movies). I have never found them funny. Even as a kid watching Mr Bean. Friends would be in stiches, and I would be getting irritated. That's not to say I don’t enjoy humour. I love Monty Python and police squad. Stupid and/or incompetent is just not funny to me.
HAVING SAID ALL OF THAT...if you are still reading, I appreciated the first half of this movie. Ignore the fish out of water / bungling oaf nonsense. The use or colour, sounds, symmetry where all interesting and enjoyable to watch. The second half of the movie was just plain boring
Is netflix learning how to finish movies? seems so. the first few netflix movies I watched seemed fine at the beginning and then fell apart towards the end. I enjoyed this all the way through
At first I was concerned about the mental state of someone that could come up this?
Then I grew more concerned that the person that come up with this is roaming around freely in public
Then I grew even more concerned by the score this has on IMDB. Are there more people like the creator of this film that understand what the f**k is going on?
Now I am deeply concerned that I, a supposedly sane, logical and grounded person sat through three hours of this, trying to make sense of it.
Someone needs to take that dog to a vet. Any animal that craps that much in one night has something seriously wrong with it!
Jokes aside though.
This movie and I did not click. 5mins in and I knew it. Ended up watching it at 1.25x speed and it still felt like an eternity for it to end.
The shots lengths were long for long sake and just made the movie longer than it needed to be. At one point I wondered if Cleo was mentally handicapped because of the length of some of the shots.
It also felt disjointed to me. It follows Cleo doing here daily routine. Step by step. Then it jumps 3 MONTHS. Make up your mind.
Yes a sad story, but so what? Bad shit happened to good folks all the time! How does that make it special? Because we watch her doing the dishes for 5 minutes? Because it is in black and white? Just felt pretentious to me, and people loved it, which confused me.
To each their own. You enjoyed it. Good for you. I did not. Good for me. Lets agree to disagree.
If Jesus ever did make a second return, we would lock him up in a padded room, and dope him up to the eye balls with some exotic cocktail of drugs that keeps him a drooling mess. All for saying he was the son of God.
Nuts, but better than being burnt at the stake I suppose

I REALLY wanted to like this movie but found it too slow and overly dramatic.I watched it at x1.25 speed and was still forwarding.
John Woo's return to US film is underwhelming.

My opinion will not be popular but,....These are very much a product of their time and I dont enjoy them.
A bunch of sketches bolted together with an unrelated musical interlude between them.

A fun watch. My favourite line of the movie."A radio is a box you buy on an instalment plan.
Before you tune it in, they tell you there's a new model out"

Better than the IMDB score would suggest. My big gripe is that is leans very heavily on the sound track to keep people engaged. Something that seems to be in Netflix's `Go-To` playbook.

Very dissapointing.very historically inaccurate, poor acting and very.... er... jumpy. jumps from action to the military brass too much.
also crazy long. did we really need 5 mins of a trains POV?
