Memorable movies (for me) viewed in theaters as I was growing up (chronologically):
That Darn Cat; Bambi (rerelease at the drive-in); The Shaggy Dog (rerelease); Doctor Dolittle; The Love Bug; Scrooge (on a class field trip); Bedknobs and Broomsticks; Jeremiah Johnson; Westworld; The World’s Greatest Athlete; Jaws (long lines); Star Wars (long lines); Saturday Night Fever; Young Frankenstein (rerelease @ 1978, stoned at the drive-in, first movie to really blow me away, thought it was brilliant); Phantom of the Paradise (rerelease, also stoned at the drive-in); Superman; Up in Smoke (duh); Friday the 13th; Raiders of the Lost Ark (immediately switched majors from Computer Science to Film, the die was cast). Ended up going to law school.
- Was a fraternity member and lived at the same house the interiors of Animal House were filmed about four years prior. The exterior of Delta house was next door. Kevin Bacon’s frat was on the other side of that.
- Colorized movies (mostly Ted Turner’s MGM library) at Color Systems Technology in Marina del Rey for a number of years. I didn’t think it was right to colorize beautiful black and white, but I tried to do my best quality wise. The only movie I recall colorists receiving credits at the end of the film was The Stratton Story.
- Between 1988 and 1992, I videotaped (on VHS) over 4,000 movies for my personal library. Sources were mainly HBO, Showtime, The Movie Channel, Cinemax, American Movie Classics, Bravo, A & E; KCET (PBS Los Angeles) and the great Z Channel. I have retained a couple hundred rare films from this collection and still have a few VHS players.
