Real smear campaign against the Khmer Rouge. Totally biased film by noted propagandist Rithy Panh, whose experience witnessing first-hand the absolute worst in humanity amounts to nothing more than western middle class paranoia. Avoid.*
*Don't avoid. This film is deeply moving with poetic narration and an inventive conceit- which, while not always successful, hits the mark more often than not and makes bearable the viewing experience of Panh's horrific account. 7 years 10 months ago -

Interesting concept, cute clay figures and clever sets are let down by a monotonous narration that is extremely biased and singles out the Khmer Rouge as the only source of evil, forgetting that the previous and subsequent governments were nothing to write home about either. Only towards the end of the film, although very briefly and superficially, there is some acknowledgement of the pathetic situation to which the working classes had been reduced by preceding regimes. Indeed, it is a very complex and touchy subject that can be seen through -and deserves- more points of view than just the western middle class paranoia's. 8 years ago
