Goomba Stomp's 150 Greatest Horror Films of the 20th Century (2016)

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. Ranked list, compiled by Ricky D Fernandes.
The history of horror is vast and perhaps a list of the 200 greatest horror films is a foolhardy thing to tackle. I’ve been watching horror movies since I was a very young kid and I think it is safe to say that I’ve watched more than the average person. Yet, as hard as I try, there are still many films that I still haven’t seen... It is impossible to make a definitive list of the best horror films but what follows is a list of my personal 150 favorite horror films of the 20th century accompanied by a few special mentions, mostly documentaries, short films and a few features that some people would qualify as horror, but really aren’t.
Gothic Cinema Filmography (Routledge Film Guidebooks) (2020)

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. Unranked. By Xavier Aldana Reyes. Arguing for the need to understand Gothic cinema as an aesthetic mode, this book explores its long history, from its transitional origins in phantasmagoria shows and the first ‘trick’ films to its postmodern fragmentation in the Gothic pastiches of Tim Burton. This groundbreaking book is the first thorough chronological, transhistorical and transnational study of Gothic cinema, ideal for both new and seasoned scholars, as well as those with a wider interest in the Gothic.
  5. Gothic: The Dark Heart of Film's icon

Gothic: The Dark Heart of Film

Favs/dislikes: 26:0. In October 2013, the British Film Institute unveiled an exhibition chronicling the history of dark and macabre films. In an ambitious project, the BFI unveiled a collection of a large number of films spanning four categories, bringing these films to British cinemas over a four month period. Films are arranged chronologically by theme. The Four Parts: - Monstrous (1-26) - The Dark Arts (27-48) - Haunted (49-71) - Love is a Devil (72-99) Although this exhibition includes a large number of plays, professional talks, documentaries, television series' and shorts, this list contains only the feature films presented in the exhibition.

All the films mentioned in the book Horror Film: A Critical Introduction by Murray Leeder.
Throughout the history of cinema, horror has proven to be a genre of consistent popularity, which adapts to different cultural contexts while retaining a recognizable core. Horror Film: A Critical Introduction, the newest in Bloomsbury's Film Genre series, balances the discussions of horror's history, theory, and aesthetics as no introductory book ever has. Featuring studies of films both obscure and famous, Horror Film is international in its scope and chronicles horror from its silent roots until today. As a straightforward and convenient critical introduction to the history and key academic approaches, this book is accessible to the beginner but still of interest to the expert.
22. Horror Movie Franchises's icon

    Horror Movie Franchises

Favs/dislikes: 15:0. Horror movies tend to take sequels and remakes to unprecedented lengths. How many films in other genres can boast eleven sequels and a remake, for example? Though some are good and some are decidedly not, one thing is for sure; they just keep coming. I've decided to count only series consisting of at least three films (as of the end of 2013). Also, I've excluded older series than 1960. Simply to narrow it down. For now.
