Ric Meyer's The Top 100 Kung Fu Movies
Favs/dislikes: 17:0. This list is from Ric Meyer's book Films of Fury: The Kung Fu Movie Book (2011). He uses a loose definition of "kung fu," so this list includes some films from other Hong Kong action genres as well. -
Hong Kong Film Archive's 100 Must-See Hong Kong Movies
Favs/dislikes: 14:0. In 2011, a panel of six Hong Kong cinema experts created this list of 100 must-see Hong Kong movies. Missing from IMDb: Scenes of Yan'an (1941) Roar of the People (1941) A Page of History (1941) Wong Fei Hung Burns The Tyrants' Lair (1949) The Misarranged Love Trap (1950) Should They Marry? The Asian Cinema: Spirituality, Violence and Eroticism in the Eastern Films
Favs/dislikes: 14:0. This list is from Silvia Rins' book El cine asiatico/ The Asian Cinema: Espiritualiudad, violencia y erotismo en el cine oriental/ Spirituality, Violence and Eroticism in the Eastern Films (2007). -
Asia Shock: Horror and Dark Cinema from Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Thailand
Favs/dislikes: 57:0. A viewer's guide to accompany the book of the same name by Patrick Galloway. The list features every title reviewed in the book, in the order in which they appear. Please note: Because Galloway includes a review of the American remake of Ringu, I have included it on the list, even though it is obviously not an Asian movie. -
Cinemaya's Greatest Asian Films
Favs/dislikes: 28:0. In 1998, Cinemaya asked 34 critics (mostly Asian critics) to list their 10 favorite Asian films. Cinemaya published all of these lists in issue #41 of the magazine. #1 Tokyo Story appeared on 20 of the lists. This is a list of films that appeared on at least 2 lists. See this spreadsheet for vote counts. 6 of the critics listed "The Apu Trilogy" without specifying an individual film, so I counted each trilogy vote as a vote for all 3 films. You can see some of the top 10 lists in this Google book preview.
