I used to think I knew what melodrama was. Then I saw All That Heaven Allows.Timec
"Written on the Wind" might qualify as camp (not that "camp" is really a pejorative) - this film does not. Though it is definitely strongly stylized (though not excessively so), it's not marked by any particular irony or kitschy elements - it gently, intelligently undermines some of the social conventions of the time. It's also incredibly, surprisingly emotionally involving.Namfoodle
It's like the Commando of romance films.Amy Adams
This film had been in my watch list for sometime and I kept putting it off. Based on reviews I thought that this wasn't a movie that I would like. I'm not a sentimental person yet this movie warmed my heart in a way that so many other films that have dealt with similar topics have failed to do so.So thanks Martin Scorsese for having this movie on your must watch list otherwise I might have kept further avoiding it.

@monty: The current critical theory on Sirk is that his melodramas were actually very subtle satires. Not quite camp, but certainly overwrought (and intentionally so).JStein
I'm not big on melodramas, but this movie looks great. I love the way colours look in early colour films. The outfits are reminiscent of '38 Robin Hood in their bold colours, and the lighting is similarly beautiful.jacktrewin

Pure camp.Rosenrotta
Slightly prefer Written on the Wind. Maybe because ATHA had the ugly Jane Wyman.
