A very good gothic horror film with pretty decent make-up effects for Mr. Hyde. There is also one small short scene that features an interesting special effect where Dr. Jekyll is sleeping that was pretty cool. John Barrymore's Hyde was very creepy.

This movie seems to be the predecessor of all the very popular gothic horror films by Universal in the 1930s and 1940s as well as the Hammer Horror films of the 1960s and 1970s. It probably influenced the creators of those films.

Far and away the best version I've seen of this story. Barrymore is so evil as Hyde. He makes March and Tracy tame by comparison.

Not by any means comparable with The Artist, except for the fact that it's a silent film.
