Once again I gotta thank every person who hates this movie and isn't shy about posting his/her opinion around here. It always lowers my expectations to a level that I can really enjoy watching the particular movie. This was no exception.
I'm no big comic book enthusiast so I didn't have anything to compare the movie to. It had its ups and downs (the first half hour) but then I was entertained pretty good.
At first the concept of green lantern seemed a bit dull, if not laughable, but this movie changed it. Of course it's a origin's story, but it showed potential. I'm definitely going to read some of the comics now.
Actually not that bad, it was quite watchable without much cringing. Hardcore comic fans will scream bloody murder of course, but for many of us it's a decent rookie-superhero action flick that doesn't dwell too long on anything other than (green) special effects and kicking a huge bad guy's ass in the finale.
Did they really have to CGI EVERYTHING? Jeez. Well, I just watched it for Blake Lively. Wasn't disappointed. Other than that, the movies was completely raped by the script and the editing. But, you know, it was entertaining enough.
The movie seemed to jump around a lot as though chunks of the movie had been cut out in the editing room.
Especially noticeable at the end where Hal is talking with Carol, next scene he's on Oa, next scene he's back on Earth and Carol has been kidnapped and the smoke octopus suddenly arrives
. There were some good moments where the movie pulled off a moderately entertaining scene, but for most of the running time this feels like the world's most generic superhero movie, with cookie cutter character arc and two completely uninteresting villains.
I really don't see why everyone hated this so much. Sure, it's not a great movie, it's got problems and it could've been better, but it was still pretty entertaining.
Given that the mythology of Green Lantern is so darn wacky (test pilot becomes part of an intergalactic peace keeping corps given the ability to create anything their mind can conjour by a green ring powered by sheer will) you'd expect the film to be a tough one to take seriously. And it is. Ryan Reynolds grabs his biggest lead role so far as irresponsible fighter jock Hal Jordan and tries with all his heart to make the film work but he's ultimately undermined by a clunky plot, shakey script and some weak support in the rest of the cast. It's biggest problem is the hash it makes in creating an emotional character arc for Hal. The attempt is laudable but it totally weighs down 3/4 of the film when it could have been so much more by just embracing the concept and having fun. The remaining 1/4 makes up the first and last 20 minutes and in these little glimpses you see just how huge and epic the story could have been if it had been let off the leash of 'the origin story' which is rapidly becoming Hollywood shorthand for "the boring part we have to get through before we can start making the movie we'd like to." That of course is what sequels are for and for once I think this is a film that deserves a sequel not because it's any good, but because the next one (if it ever comes given everyone's luke-warm response) could be extraordinary. In the mean time, Reynolds proves he is definately worth giving a movie to. He just needs to pick a good one next time,
Graphics are good .. Plot is quite simple. Since this is the first part it sounds more like "INTRODUCTION TO GREEN LANTERN". I do like the movie but still a one timer ..

This movie is an insult to the thousands of pages of original comic book material they had to work with.meysam_a

I enjoyed this movie, perhaps thanks to the fact that I am not familiar with the comics. Way better than Captain America anyway...Justcharmingyou
Hopefully a sequel could be better now they got the backstory out of the wayDfigge
Nice movie, but the battle against evil was way to short. The moment the movie was ended, I wanted it to really begin.Showing items 1 – 15 of 50
