A mixed bag. Basically, if you're going to do so much of it in CGI, your sequences probably shouldn't look like video game cut scenes. The Guardians are especially fake-looking, though the hero Lanterns look quite good, as do the action scenes. Ryan Reynolds is not an actor I find particularly engaging or charismatic, and his comedy dialog fell flat for me. The plot itself is gauchely handled, with lots of infodumping to cover concepts that weigh down the movie, like Parallax. And if you're going to make this an obvious first part of a proposed series (because why else set up Sinestro like that?), maybe you should make everything else about the movie is going to be a success. Because if Green Lantern's lackluster performance at the box office prevents the story from being completed, we're left with a lot of dangling plot threads that diminish the achievements of GL "part 1". I don't mean to sound THAT down on it, because I never found it boring or irritating. It's perfectly ok. But its own ambition was to be more than ok, and so it fails.

Alright, the only thing that's keeping me from disliking this movie is that it's visually so very impressive. I loved the colors and the way everything looked.

But that's all. I was not excited by the movie at all... mostly lame dialogs, boring acting, the story-telling was somewhere between mediocre and poor... which is a pity, because the special effects might have made a movie with a better script really interesting.

The loveless script our rage ignites
Producer's greed with no foresight
Compassion lacks, so fear this blight
Let's hope in the future they will get it right.

We need more studios and producers will to take more risks with superhero movies. There need to be more comic adaptations that are dramas first, action second.

The concept of Parallax is too much for viewers who are not DC literate, and the portrayal in the film only aggravates those who are.
While Sarsgaard did his best with Hammond, Hector is not a wise choice for a villain on screen. There were times where he was genuinely repugnant (like smelling Carol's hair) but more often than not he came off as goofy. Telepathy works much better on paper.
They should have scrapped these two from the beginning.

What they should have stuck with was the relationship between Hal Jordan and Thaal Sinsetro instead of wasting screen time on him creating a yellow power ring... he never uses. This is purely to set up a sequel... which will never be made.
The template for the script should not have been another superhero origins story but that of a cop movie in the vein of Training Day. Jordan the idealistic rookie and Sinestro the hardened, cynical veteran. Mark Strong of Earth would have had the power to instil great fear. (On a side note, I wish there was a 70's or 80's Green Lantern film with Sinestro played by Charles Bronson. He already had the sleazy mo and everything.)

If you've read the works of Geoff Johns you'll understand the disappointment towards this film and the wasted potential the Green Lantern universe has to offer. I don't think I'll ever get to to see Slushh, Larfleeze or Dex-Starr on screen.

This movie is not so bad like I was expecting.
i am not a green lantern fan, I DidnĀ“t know the origin story, I like it, but the movie is not in the same level like other super hero movies, maybe is the sript, maybe is the characters or the actors, the ending is a little let down, it feels rushed it could be better.
If DC wants to compete with Marvel, Justice league vs Avengers, they need to improve on their movies because Green Lantern is not at the same level as Thor, Iron Man or any other movie with association with the Avengers.

Having now seen Green Lantern and The Green Hornet in the same week, I'd have to say I preferred The Green Mile. Or Soylent Green. It was better than Green Street though.

OK, I'm finished now.

the effects were good but everything else was bad.
well, Ryan Reynolds is nice to look at but this little fact can't save the movie if everything else is boring and terrible.

One of the most pathetic blockbusters of recent years. A few more jokes and it could have passed for a really poor parody, which is basically what it is already.

Watched Green Lantern(2011). What the fuck was this...I mean it wasn't a HORRIBLE film but it wasn't a good one either...it wasn't even alright. I don't really know what I thought of this. I mean it had a pretty cool last battle and SOME of the CGI looked kinda cool but most of the movie was just..meh. Character development? I could not find much of it. The movie had a lot of parts where the CGI looked pretty bad..like worse then the ones in Xmen Origins:wolverine. I mean I for some strange reason was actually able to watch the whole movie with out being annoyed for most of the part but it was like, just me watching my TV as some colorful stuff go on it. The tone was weird as fuck. I don't even want to talk about this movie anymore. You know what...this is officially the first BAD film that I have seen this whole year. Yep.
