it was very well made and the kid was great, but i really did have the disconcerting feeling that the tsunami was something that just happened to tourists and the few asian folks you saw in the background were basically fine and just helping out. i guess they're just used to it?

A shallow movie that tries far too hard to make you cry, but has nice tsunami scenes, and some good acting. I'm going to have to agree with devilsadvocado's comment.

I have only one question after watching this - where the hell did they find that great child actors?! That's the most impressive thing with this film tbh, that the children were just as good if not better than the adults - and that's coming from somebody who usually hate kids in films. Really heartwrenching production, hard to hold back the tears, but it did drag on for a tad too long towards the end in my opinion. And I hate the title. Other than that - brilliant.

This movie reminded me of the little girl who wanted nothing more in the world than to look pretty. So one morning she sneaks into her parents' bathroom and plasters mum's makeup all over her face. "Look, mommy, I'm pretty now!"

Only instead of wanting us to think his movie was pretty, the director of The Impossible (could not be bothered to even look up his name) wanted us to cry -- this is clear. Lacking any real talent or insight into humanity, what's his name just deferred to the easy default method of simply trying to drown us in feelings. He laid it on reaaaaal thick; it was practically a tidal wave of phony emotion.

Nothing about this movie was real or authentic, despite the fact that it was inspired by a true story. It was contrived, unrealistic, two-dimensional, and overflowing with a mawkish sentimentality just as gooey and overdone as needless gore...which this movie also happened to have.

Fantastic, heart wrenching film, based on a true disaster. The film bases it's storyline around a real family that went through the event, and although the real family was Spanish, played by Brits in the film, the story is pretty accurate. Love all the key actors, but was pleasantly shocked by the young Tom Holland, who gave a fantastic performance. The emotions emitted through the film were organic, and unless you aren't one to cry, be prepared to. A must see.

I don't understand what's wrong about the director wanting to make his audience cry when watching his film, the tsunami was absolutely horrifying and he portrayed this devastating disaster decently.

The real downside about this film is the poor amount of focus on the ones who were hit hardest: the locals. It almost merely focuses on the tourists who were struck, but the numbers of locals who died exceeded the number of tourists by far. The locals are being portrayed as helpers of all the poor, rich, white people and for every injured thai you see, you'll see four injured white people.

Tom Holland is the absolute star of this film, his performance is better than anyone else, even that of Naomi Watts who also do a terrific job.

Absolutely brilliant. It really manages to capture the emotion and overwhelming chaos. Excellent performances from the main cast. I doubt it's possible to have made a drama depicting these events any better than this movie.

Heart wrenching stuff.

Holy moly what a rollercoaster! Really enjoyed this movie! Great performances and great visuals.
Just one thing ... for a movie that takes place in Thailand ... there's a distinct lack of Asians in this movie ...

Extremely moving and harrowing tale of family caught by the 2004 Tsunami in Tailand. Well acted by all, including the young actors, and really powerfull and emotional.

This has to be one of the most horrible and emotional movies I have seen in a long time! It was hard to watch, but also one of the better movies I have ever seen!

Great performances!
Glad I watched the whole thing!
