It wasn't boring, but I didn't have any profound feelings other than complete fucking misery either.Shazaaaam
I read several rave reviews of this movie along the lines of "it brings these forgotten people to life", but without narration, interviews, or much dialogue, the footage wasn't much more enlightening (or involving) than passing the individuals on the street would have been. Lovely images, observed at numbing length... the sort of movie that makes you ask, "What does the director want me to think or feel about the third minute of Vanda coughing that I didn't already think during the previous minutes?"jlfitz
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long.ClassicLady
I didn't have high expectations for this movie. My expectations were almost met.jmars
Visually as striking as it’s subject matter. On the other hand, with zero narrative structure if you’ve seen 20 minutes you’ve essentially seen the whole film.Gecekurdu
The second film in Pedro Costa’s transformative trilogy about Fontainhas.Armoreska

Available on the Criterion Channel as of December 2020. The description there calls it "extraordinarily beautiful," and I can't help but think that whoever wrote that has a different definition of beauty from most of humanity. Imagine Trainspotting without the wit, humor, action or plot, but almost double the running time. It's probably a very realistic depiction of drug addiction, but unless you consider three hours of a junkie arguing with people and coughing up a lung in near darkness beautiful, this might be one to skip. 3/10Communicants
I legitimately feel bad for people who think Pedro Costa is boring.
