I only read the book once and it was a long time ago. I find the screenplay solid, nice cinematography and music. I like the fact they weren't too focused on 'the beauty' of the stars in the movie, if you can call them that (Stewart, Dunst, Riley). I also like that it's current, it's not about time (40's/50's)/space (America/Mexico) and it has the spirit of freedom and that anything is possible I always thought the book has. Although from afar it might at times look like a telenovela.
It's hard to watch, lots of pointless scenes but the acting is good by the main actor Sam Railey and Tom Sturridge as well. As for probably the most important character from the book/movie, Dean Moriarty, I felt like Garrett Hedlund did a good job but that character asked for more, it needed one of those 'Oscar-worthy-performances' and Hedlund didn't give us one. As for Kristen Stewart painly to watch performance, this is the only thing I can say:
From IMDB trivia of the movie: Lindsay Lohan was considered for the role of Marylou.
and by all means, Lohan would've done a 10x times better performance than Stewart. Period.

I think it's better than the book. Missing some points made it even better.God
Watching Kristen Stewart act- or rather, trying to act- is like watching paint dryniesl2
I might have read over it or missed Kerouac double entendres, but there was way more sexy time then I expected...Maniacske
Well acted, but overlong and missing Kerouacs spirit. Too much blues, too little jazz.piri
The book was sooo good that they should have respected it and don't make this movie.jamesdeans
